Systematic analysis of critical genes and pathways identified a signature of neuropathic pain after spinal cord injury.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) damages sensory systems, producing chronic neuropathic pain that is resistant to medical treatment. The specific mechanisms underlying SCI-induced neuropathic pain (SCI-NP) remain unclear, and protein biomarkers have not yet been integrated into diagnostic screening. To better understand the host molecular pathways involved in SCI-NP, we used the bioinformatics method, the PubMed database and bioinformatics methods to identify target genes and their associated pathways. We reviewed 2504 articles on the regulation of SCI-NP and used the text mining of PubMed database ab

FHLdb: A Comprehensive Database on the Molecular Basis of Familial Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis.

Background: Primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs) are a heterogeneous group of disorders. The lack of comprehensive disease-specific mutation databases may hinder or delay classification of the genetic variants found in samples from these patients. This is especially true for familial hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (FHL), a life-threatening PID classically considered an autosomal recessive condition, but with increasingly demonstrated genetic heterogeneity. Objective: The aim of this study was to build an open-access repository to collect detailed information on the known genetic variants repo

Proteomic analysis of immature rat pups brain in response to hypoxia and ischemia challenge.

Hypoxia and ischemia significantly affects perinatal brain development, even worse in preterm infants. However, the details of the mechanism leading to permanent brain damage after hypoxia-ischemia attack have not been fully elucidated. Proteomics could provide insight into the potential mechanism and help to promote the clinical treatment. In this study, quantitative analysis was performed 24 hours after hypoxia-ischemia using liquid-chromatography mass spectrometry coupled to label-free analysis. Compared to control, 193 proteins were present only in hypoxic-ischemic group. In addition, 34 p

Investigation of the ability of the oviposition-stimulant lectin from Moringa oleifera seeds (WSMoL) to bind with membrane proteins present in the legs of Aedes aegypti.

The mosquito Aedes aegypti L. is a vector transmitting diseases such as dengue, chikungunya and Zika virus fever. The water-soluble lectin from Moringa oleifera Lam. seeds (WSMoL) is larvicidal, ovicidal and can stimulate oviposition in A. aegypti. This study aimed to investigate whether WSMoL could bind to membrane proteins from A. aegypti legs. Initially, proteins from the legs were extracted using sodium deoxycholate, digitonin, dodecyl sodium sulfate (SDS) or Triton X-100. The protein concentration was found to be higher in the extract obtained using Triton X-100, which was applied to a WS

2-D reference map of Bacillus anthracis vaccine strain A16R proteins.

Bacillus anthracis has always been an important pathogen because it can cause lethal inhalational anthrax, and may be used as a bioweapon or by bioterrorists. In this study, a 2-DE reference map and database of B. anthracis A16R was constructed. In total, 534 spots were processed, and 406 spots representing 299 proteins were identified. Gel-estimated pIs and molecular masses mostly matched well with their theoretical predictions, but some discrepancies also existed. Spot and protein corresponding analysis revealed that post-translational modifications might be common in B. anthracis. Through t

Functional Annotation and Curation of Hypothetical Proteins Present in A Newly Emerged Serotype 1c of Shigella flexneri: Emphasis on Selecting Targets for Virulence and Vaccine Design Studies.

Shigella flexneri is the principal cause of bacillary dysentery, contributing significantly to the global burden of diarrheal disease. The appearance and increase in the multi-drug resistance among Shigella strains, necessitates further genetic studies and development of improved/new drugs against the pathogen. The presence of an abundance of hypothetical proteins in the genome and how little is known about them, make them interesting genetic targets. The present study aims to carry out characterization of the hypothetical proteins present in the genome of a newly emerged serotype of S. flexne

Identification, N-terminal region sequencing and similarity analysis of differentially expressed proteins in Paracoccidioides brasiliensis.

Paracoccidioides brasiliensis is the causal agent of paracoccidioidomycosis, which is a systemic mycosis in Latin America. This human pathogen is a dimorphic fungus existing as mycelium (26 degrees C) and in infected tissues as a yeast form (36 degrees C). The in vitro differentiation process is reversible and dependent on temperature shift. In the present study, the total proteins from both forms of P. brasiliensis (isolate Pb01) were analysed by two-dimensional electrophoresis. Differentially expressed proteins were identified. Two of these proteins, PbM46 (mycelium) and PbY20 (yeast), were
