SeLECTS-assisted identification based on structured EEG reports: Development and external validation of a multicenter machine learning model.

Benign epilepsy with centrotemporal spikes (SeLECTS) is a common pediatric epilepsy characterized by high-amplitude central-temporal spikes on electroencephalogram (EEG). Early identification remains challenging owing to inter-reader variability and inter-center protocol differences. Existing models often rely on single-center raw EEG, limiting generalizability and clinical deployment. An explainable, cross-institutional tool built on structured EEG reports plus routine laboratory tests could improve screening and workflow. This study aimed to develop a machine learning model for SeLECTS assis

Prediction of absolute risk of acute graft-versus-host disease following hematopoietic cell transplantation.

Allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) is the treatment of choice for a variety of hematologic malignancies and disorders. Unfortunately, acute graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) is a frequent complication of HCT. While substantial research has identified clinical, genetic and proteomic risk factors for acute GVHD, few studies have sought to develop risk prediction tools that quantify absolute risk. Such tools would be useful for: optimizing donor selection; guiding GVHD prophylaxis, post-transplant treatment and monitoring strategies; and, recruitment of patients into clinical tria

A multidimensional risk prediction framework for malignant intestinal obstruction based on machine learning: computational model development and clinical validation.

Malignant intestinal obstruction (MIO) is a severe complication of advanced cancer. Traditional static assessment models struggle to capture its dynamic pathological mechanisms, limiting their clinical value. To address this, this study developed a multimodal machine learning framework. Core features (including the dynamic tumor enhancement ratio TER) were extracted via Lasso-Boruta dual-modality screening, and risk prediction was performed using an XGBoost-Random Survival Forest (RSF) cascade model. Results demonstrated an AUC of 0.84 ± 0.03 and Brier score of 0.19 in the internal validation

Real-Time Prediction of Lower-Limb Joint Kinematics, Kinetics, and Ground Reaction Force Using Wearable Sensors and Machine Learning.

Walking is a key movement of interest in biomechanics, yet gold-standard data collection methods are time- and cost-expensive. This paper presents a real-time, multimodal, high sample rate lower-limb motion capture framework, based on wireless wearable sensors and machine learning algorithms. Random Forests are used to estimate joint angles from IMU data, and ground reaction force (GRF) is predicted from an instrumented insole, while joint moments are predicted from angles and GRF using deep learning based on the ResNet-16 architecture. All three models achieve good accuracy compared to the li

Evaluation of Approaches to Cattle Calving Prediction Based on Vaginal Temperature: Machine Learning-Versus Threshold-Based Models.

Prediction of calving among cattle based on body temperature is used to prevent calving accidents. However, conventional threshold-based methods often miss or misdetect signs of calving. We quantitatively compared a machine learning-based model with conventional threshold-based methods for calving prediction using vaginal temperature data from wearable devices. Vaginal temperature was recorded at 5-min intervals from approximately 7 days before the expected calving date until parturition in beef (n = 77) and dairy cattle (n = 78). Twenty-six time-series features were extracted, and a machine l

A Machine Learning Approach for Predicting Synergism of Mixtures of Compounds in Treating Cancers.

Combination therapy is a common strategy in cancer treatment to improve efficacy, minimize side effects, and overcome drug resistance. However, the vast number of possible drug pairings makes experimental screening both time-consuming and costly. Drug interactions can result in synergy and antagonism, emphasizing the need for efficient predictive models. In this study, we develop a pairwise-compound quantitative structure-activity relationship (pQSAR) framework based on an ensemble stacking machine learning strategy to enhance prediction of empirically defined combination-effect classes using

Predictive Modelling of Solvent Effects on Drug Incorporation into Polymeric Nanocarriers: A Machine Learning Approach.

This study aimed to identify solvent characteristics that enhance drug loading in polymeric micelles. Polyethylene glycol-block-polystyrene (PEG-b-PS) and curcumin were used as model compounds to investigate the impact of 40 different solvent mixtures on drug loading during flow-based assembly. We tested five algorithms: Random Forest (RF), Gradient Boosting (GP), XGBoost, Support Vector Regression (SVR), and Multilayer Perceptron (MLP), with the MLP model proving to be the most effective among them. To explain the model's predictions, we utilized SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) values to

Machine learning in early screening for high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia using blood testing.

BACKGROUND: High-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN2/3) is a critical precursor to cervical cancer, yet current screening methods (e.g., HPV testing, colposcopy) face challenges in accessibility and invasiveness, especially in resource-limited settings. We aimed to develop a non-invasive, machine learning (ML)-based model using routine blood biomarkers. This model is intended to assess the risk of high-grade CIN and potentially serve as a triage tool before colposcopy. METHODS: Data were collected from two groups: 128 high-grade CIN (CIN2/3) and 120 low-grade CIN (CIN1) patients. A

Machine Learning Algorithm for the Detection of Tumor Microsatellite Instability Based on Multiomics Biomarkers.

PURPOSE: Accurate classification of microsatellite instability (MSI) in advanced cancers is critical for identifying patients who may benefit from immune checkpoint inhibitors. However, variability in MSI detection workflows can lead to missed MSI-high cases, indicating need for complementary screening approaches. Using next-generation sequencing (NGS) data from colorectal tumors, we developed a machine learning (ML) model to predict MSI status using immune-related gene expression profiles and pathogenic single-nucleotide variants (SNVs) and copy-number variants (CNVs).
