Comparison of the impact of hemodialysis versus hemofiltration on filter lifespan in acute kidney injury: A meta-analysis.

OBJECTIVE: To compare the effect of hemofiltration (HF) versus hemodialysis (HD) on mortality and filter lifespan in patients with acute kidney injury (AKI). METHODS: Literature published between January 1990 and December 2025 was retrieved from four databases: PubMed, Embase, MEDLINE, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI). Statistical analyses were performed using Review Manager (RevMan) software. RESULTS: Eight randomized controlled trials were included. HD showed no statistically significant difference in all-cause mortality compared to HF (RR = 1.07, 95% CI: 0.82-1.40). In s

Cerebrospinal fluid shunting for idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus: a comprehensive meta‑analysis with trial sequential analysis of randomized controlled trials.

BACKGROUND: Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) is a potentially reversible neurocognitive disorder causing severe functional decline in the elderly. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) shunting aims to relieve ventricular stress and restore perfusion; however, high-quality placebo-controlled evidence has historically been limited. METHODS: This PRISMA-compliant systematic review and meta-analysis (PROSPERO: CRD420261372290) evaluated adults aged 60 years or older with iNPH. We included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing immediate active CSF shunting against placebo or no shuntin

Prescription of Graded Motor Imagery for People With Chronic Pain: A Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: This scoping review investigates how graded motor imagery (GMI) and its individual components (left/right judgments, imagined movements and mirror therapy) are applied in clinical trials for people with chronic pain conditions. Understanding how GMI is prescribed is essential to guide its standardization and optimization for clinical practice. METHODS: We searched the Cochrane Database of controlled trials, PubMed, CINAHL, Embase and PsycINFO from inception to May 2024 for randomized controlled trials published in English that examined the effects of GMI or its components either a

Efficacy of brain-based neurofeedback interventions for binge eating: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Binge eating behavior and food craving are associated with altered reward sensitivity and impaired inhibitory control, contributing to physical and psychological consequences. Neurofeedback (NFB) has emerged as a promising non-invasive intervention for reducing binge eating behaviors, yet its overall efficacy remains unclear and warrants quantitative synthesis. A systematic search was conducted across MEDLINE, CENTRAL, EMBASE, ClinicalTrial.gov, and PubMed to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of NFB interventions for binge eating behaviors or binge eating disorder (BED) in adults. Effectiveness of group-based art interventions for late-life depression: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

BACKGROUND: Depression is the most common mental health disorder among the older populations, leading to a higher reduction in quality of life and an increased financial burden on the health care system. One promising non-pharmacological approach for improving mental health in older adults is the use of art-based interventions. METHODS: This systematic review and meta-analysis followed PRISMA guidelines. Eligible randomized controlled trials (RCTs) examined any form of art intervention (including music, dance, and visual arts) targeting depression in adults aged > 55 years. Databases searched

Integrated Depression Care and Livelihood Interventions for Low-Income Women in Vietnam: Protocol for a Cluster Nonrandomized Controlled Trial (LIFE-DM).

BACKGROUND: In Vietnam, economically disadvantaged women face compounded risks due to gender inequality, financial instability, and limited access to mental health care. Community health stations (CHSs), the frontline entry point into the health system and the most accessible primary care facilities, typically lack trained mental health providers, further exacerbating an already existing treatment gap. While evidence-based treatments for depression exist, most interventions address either mental health or economic hardship separately, limiting their effectiveness in resource-constrained settin

Optimising and personalising task-shared psychosocial interventions for common mental disorders: a Bayesian component network meta-analysis of individual participant data.

BACKGROUND: Although psychosocial interventions delivered by non-specialist providers effectively treat common mental disorders such as depression and anxiety, the treatment-specific elements driving their efficacy remain largely unknown. Our aim was to compare and rank the efficacy of the individual active components of task-shared psychosocial interventions and to predict efficacy using individual participant characteristics. METHODS: We performed a systematic review and Bayesian individual participant data component network meta-analysis of RCTs comparing different task-shared psychosocial

Systolic blood pressure targets after successful endovascular thrombectomy: a network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

BACKGROUND: Uncertainty persists regarding the optimal systolic blood pressure (SBP) target after thrombectomy, as systemic blood pressure may affect the penumbra and associated microcirculatory perfusion. We evaluated the impact of different SBP targets on outcomes and the dose-response relationship between actual 24-hour mean SBP and functional outcomes. METHODS: We systematically reviewed studies comparing SBP targets after thrombectomy. Bayesian network meta-analysis assessed functional independence and safety. Multi-threshold sensitivity analyses tested the proportional odds assumption a

Progression-free survival 2 (PFS2) as a surrogate endpoint for overall survival (OS) in breast cancer randomized controlled clinical trials.

BACKGROUND: Overall survival (OS) is the gold-standard endpoint in oncology trials but often requires prolonged follow-up. Progression-free survival 2 (PFS2) has been proposed as an intermediate surrogate. While prior analyses report sufficient correlation of PFS2 with OS, no study has specifically evaluated its surrogacy in breast cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A systematic search of Medline, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library was conducted to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in breast cancer reporting both PFS2 and OS. Safety and Efficacy of Colchicine across the Spectrum of Coronary Artery Disease: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of 20 Randomized Trials.

Recent evidence questioned the overall safety and efficacy of colchicine in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD), as novel evidence focusing on acute coronary syndromes (ACSs) gave neutral results, while trials focusing on chronic coronary syndrome supported colchicine administration to improve long-term outcomes. However, no study has ever explored whether there is a true therapeutic difference across the populations or these discrepancies are due to additional confounders. Against this background, we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized trials of colchicine in

Randomized controlled trials in Europe: a call to action to protect national healthcare systems from the upcoming tsunami of kidney failure.

Kidney diseases are among the fastest-growing global health burdens, with chronic kidney disease projected to become the third leading cause of death by 2050. Despite this, therapeutic innovation remains limited: no European Medicines Agency-approved treatment exists for acute kidney injury, and no drugs have demonstrated survival benefits in patients on dialysis. Randomized controlled clinical trials, although pivotal for advancing care, face persistent challenges in nephrology, including patient heterogeneity, multimorbidity, high dropout rates and small populations in rare diseases. In Euro

Veverimer in treating metabolic acidosis in chronic kidney disease patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials.

INTRODUCTION: Chronic kidney failure (CKD), a common cause of mortality, impacts about 800 million individuals globally. Metabolic acidosis, which occurs in 20% of people with CKD, complicates the course of CKD and increases the possibility of morbidity and mortality in these patients. Veverimer, a promising experimental acid-binding polymer that may be taken orally and has a high capacity, presents a unique method for the management of metabolic acidosis conditions in CKD patients. This study aimed to assess the safety and effectiveness of veverimer compared to placebo by analysing data from
