Cow's milk induced eosinophilic colitis presenting in the first week of life has been reported, but is very rare. The authors describe a 4-day-old female infant who presented with profuse rectal bleeding resulting in a hematocrit fall from 38% to 30% within 8 hr after hospital admission. Several protein kinases that copurify with neurofilaments (NF) were identified and each kinase was assessed for its ability to phosphorylate NF proteins. To evaluate nutritional availability and chronic toxicity of KSeCN, female postweanling rats were fed casein-based diets plus 0.1, 0.5, 2.5, 5 and 10 mg Se/kg as KSeCN for 6 wk, or 0.1, 0.5 and 10 mg Se/kg as Na2SeO3. A total of 118 Staphylococcus aureus strains isolated from routine sampling, samples from food poisoning outbreaks and human clinical specimens were examined for the production of enterotoxins A, B, C, D and E. The present study pertains to the effect of nutritional factors on the growth and production of antimicrobial substances (AS) by Streptococcus lactis subsp. diacetylactis S1-67/C. Among nine media tested, yeast extract dextrose broth supported good growth and maximum production of AS. Thirty-four infants (25 Inuit and 9 Caucasians) with protein-energy malnutrition and intractable diarrhea were treated with total parenteral nutrition (TNP) consisting of a casein hydrolysate, a soybean emulsion and dextrose. Serine-Threonine kinase CK2 supports malignant B-lymphocyte growth but its role in B-cell development and activation is largely unknown. Here, we describe the first B-cell specific knockout (KO) mouse model of the β regulatory subunit of CK2. CK2βKO mice present an increase in marginal zone (MZ) and a reduction in follicular B cells, suggesting a role for CK2 in the regulation of the B cell receptor (BCR) and NOTCH2 signaling pathways.
