We report on a patient with denervation atrophy of the masticatory muscles due to nasopharyngeal cancer who received therapeutic irradiation. Magnetic resonance imaging has significantly contributed to aid diagnosis of this pathology. Masticatory muscle atrophy should be a definitive finding of perineural invasion caused by head and neck tumors. Radiologists should be familiar with this appearance to avoid confusion with tumor invasion of the muscle.

INTRODUCTION: Desmoid-type fibromatosis (DF) is a rare benign lesion known for its local aggressiveness. The tumor management still remains under debate. Primary head and neck (HN), represents the second most prevalently affected sitein children with DF. This study aims to analyze the specificity of HN-DF in children, focusing on long-term effects of the tumor and therapies.
METHODS: This retrospective multicenter study analyzed children treated for a HN-DF between 1993 and 2013. All medical files were reviewed and their outcomes analyzed according to the initial therapies provided.

PURPOSE: Functional outcomes and complication rates after open surgery for advanced-stage oropharyngeal cancers are rarely reported. These measures are critical for choice of treatment modality and patient counseling. Twenty-nine per cent of patients undergoing mandibular resection had an entirely uncomplicated postoperative course. Local complications occurred in 54 per cent and systemic complication in 35 per cent. Increasing the extent of resection or an additional procedure, such as radical neck dissection, increased the local complication rate. Operation in fully irradiated tissue produced an increase in the proportion of life-threatening complications. Systemic complications were responsible for 80 per cent of the postoperative deaths.

Osteoradionecrosis (ORN) of the mandible is a severe complication of radiation therapy for head and neck cancer. In this case series, the authors analyzed their treatment and quality of life outcomes over the past 6 years. This study describes the clinical and pathologic features of ameloblastomas seen in the 2 main craniofacial treatment centers in Kenya in the 10-year period between January 1995 and December 2005. A total of 184 patient records were analyzed for this study. The trigeminal nerve is the largest cranial nerve with both a sensory and motor function. MRI is an excellent technique to evaluate the trigeminal nerve. A retrospective analysis was conducted on patients diagnosed with and treated for keratocystic odontogenic tumor (KCOT) at Mashhad School of Dentistry between 1996 and 2006. The patients comprised 44 men and 30 women with a mean age of 27.08 years. Among the total of 83 lesions, 56 (67.5%) occurred in the mandible and 27 (32.5%) in the maxilla.
