OBJECTIVES: To determine the prevalence and incidence rates of Alzheimer's disease (AD) between 1999 and 2010 in Wales and the relationship between AD with age.
METHODS: The Patient Episode Database for Wales was used to identify patients who were diagnosed with AD between 1999 and 2010.
RESULTS: During the 12-year study period, 14,534 people were diagnosed with AD in Wales. The overall prevalence of AD in individuals 60 years or older was 2% and the overall incidence was estimated as 1.5 per 1000 person-years. The term fetus papyraceus is used to describe a mummified fetus associated with multiple gestations where one fetus dies and is flattened between the membranes of living fetus and uterine wall. Though the maternal and fetal complications in affected cases can be severe, we report of two cases of fetus papyraceus managed conservatively without any complications. Successful outcome is related to careful monitoring during pregnancy.

Diabetic myonecrosis is a rare and underdiagnosed complication of long-standing, uncontrolled diabetes. It usually occurs in patients with long-standing diabetes in the presence of microvascular complications. Angiosarcomas are malignant tumors, which originate from the vessel endothelium and resemble the vessel structure. Stewart-Treves syndrome is an angiosarcoma which in general, develops in female patients after mastectomy and axillary lymph node dissection and is associated with chronic lymphedema. The prognosis of this rare complication is very poor. We present the case of a 52-year-old female who had undergone mastectomy due to breast cancer and 13 years later required shoulder disarticulation due to Stewart-Treves syndrome.

We report a case of submacular cysticercosis in the left eye of an Indian patient living in Kuwait. Though he was systemically asymptomatic, his magnetic resonance imaging showed multiple cysts in the brain. The patient underwent pars plana vitrectomy (PPV), and the cyst was removed in total through a retinotomy over the cyst. He had another small cyst in the periphery that was also removed. He was treated with oral albendazole and systemic steroids after the surgery to treat his neurocysticercosis. Follicular dendritic cell sarcoma arises from the follicular dendritic cells present in the lymph nodes, especially of the head and neck area. Rarely, extranodal sites may be affected including tonsil, the oral cavity, liver, spleen and the gastrointestinal tract.
