We report experimental results on pulmonary alveolar macrophage (PAM) renewal in healthy rats and in rats treated with particles introduced in the lungs. Morphometric studies showed that the lungs of normal rats of the strain used in our study contain 20 x 10(6) PAM, 50 x 10(6) monocytes in alveolar capillaries, and about 3 x 10(5) interstitial macrophages. Pulse labeling with a tritiated thymidine (3HT) gave a labeling index of 0.4% for the monocytes, of which a few could be observed in mitosis within alveolar capillaries. Cellulosic coagulant with low crystallinity and surface charge of -19.2 mV were extracted from wet banana peels (WBE) using kitchen-blending method. This substance is highly toxic to humans and has been the cause of many accidental and intentional deaths due in part to poor regulation of sales and distribution in many countries.
OBJECTIVES: Describe poisonings reported to the Ministry of Health in Saudi Arabia in terms of demographic variables and by time and geographic distribution.

Both protein kinase C and protein tyrosine kinases have been shown to be involved in phospholipase D (PLD) activation in intact rat myometrium [Le Stunff, Dokhac and Harbon (2000) J. Pharmacol. Exp. Ther. 292, 629-637]. In this study we assessed the involvement of monomeric G-proteins in PLD activation in a cell-free system derived from myometrial tissue. Both the PLD1 and PLD2 isoforms were detected. Two forms of PLD activity, essentially membrane-bound, were found in myometrial preparations. One form was stimulated by oleate and insensitive to guanosine 5'-[gamma-thio] triphosphate (GTP[S]).
