A 78-yr-old man experienced a generalized bullous eruption of the skin (a Stevens-Johnson variant of erythema multiforme) with simultaneous involvement of the esophagus due to co-trimoxazole. Immunologic tests revealed specific antibodies of the immunoglobulin G class but not of the immunoglobulin E class against sulfamethoxazole, and in particular against trimethoprim. In 1969-1973, acute yersiniosis was diagnosed in 30 cases of erythema nodosum (EN), in 6 cases of EN and simultaneous erythema multiforme (EM), in one case of EN and erythema figuratum, in one case of EM, and in one case of drug eruption-like exanthema, respectively. Rowell syndrome (RS) is a rare disease characterized by the association of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) or cutaneous lupus with lesions similar to erythema multiforme and the presence of autoantibodies including ANA, SSA, SSB, or rheumatoid factor. Mycoplasma pneumoniae is a common cause of respiratory infections in children, but sometimes extra-pulmonary diseases can be observed. The immunological mechanisms involved in these extra-respiratory complications are unknown. Here, we report a small case series of Mycoplasma-related diseases including 5 children who developed: i) aseptic meningitis; ii) urticarial rash and pericardial effusion; iii) pleural effusion with severe eosinophilia; iv) Stevens-Johnson syndrome; v) multiform erythema. Interestingly, all children were moderately to highly atopic, as a common immunologic feature.

Reports on cases of Stevens-Johnson syndrome (erythema multiforme major) have seldom related it to occupational exposure to chemicals. Serious liver involvement is also uncommon. Since 1964 there are 65 women and 13 men with the typical features of Sweet syndrome reported. An additional case in a 40 year old man is the purpose of this review of the literature. The Sweet syndrome is mainly observed in the fourth and fifth decade of life and begins with typical symptoms of high temperatures, peripheral leucocytosis, with eminent red plaques showing bumpy surface.
