OBJECTIVE: To study the surgical treatment method and effectiveness of Rüedi-Allgöwer III type Pilon fractures.
METHODS: Between May 2011 and April 2013, 25 cases of Rüedi-Allgöwer III type Pilon fracture (5 cases of open fractures and 20 cases of closed fractures) were treated. Of 25 cases, 16 were male, and 9 were female, aged 24-45 years (mean, 31 years). The left side was involved in 8 cases, and the right side in 17 cases. The disease causes were falling from height in 11 cases, traffic accident injury in 9 cases, and crash injury in 5 cases. The interval of injury and admission was 10-3

AIM: To determine the frequency of fractures in patients with spinal muscular atrophy, their mechanism of production, age at appearance and functional repercussions.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Sixty-five patients with spinal muscular atrophy were studied. Isolated dislocations of the proximal tibiofibular joint are a rare condition. Missed diagnosis can lead to chronic knee pain and disability. Early recognition should be followed by immediate closed reduction or open reduction and joint transfixation. We present a young athlete with this injury which was treated successfully by open reduction.

SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: Fatigue fracture of fibular strut allograft following anterior cervical corpectomy and fusion has rarely been reported.
METHODS: Two patients sustained delayed fractures of their anterior fibular strut allografts following combined three-level cervical corpectomy and posterior instrumented fusion at 9 and 17 months after surgery. Both patients had successfully fused both ends of their anterior strut grafts.

The management of symptomatic femoral head osteonecrosis in young, active patients is troublesome and controversial. At the authors' institution, 707 consecutive free vascularized fibular grafts were performed for femoral head osteonecrosis between October 1979 and October 1995. Five children with congenital pseudarthrosis of the tibia treated by free vascularised fibular grafts were followed up until skeletal maturity. The ipsilateral fibula was used in four cases, the contralateral fibula in one. All our cases achieved bone union, but leg length discrepancy, atrophy of the foot and ankle stiffness were frequent complications, due perhaps to the many previous operations. Vascularised fibular grafting might achieve better results if it were done as the primary procedure.

Free vascularized fibular grafts were used for reconstruction of massive long bone defects in 10 cases. The causes of the defects included 3 congenital pseudarthroses of the tibia, 2 traumatic bone defects, and 5 bone tumors. The average graft length was 13.2 cm (range 6-21 cm). OBJECTIVE: To determine the results of "biologic fixation" with a minimally invasive plating technique using a newly designed low profile "Scallop" plate in the treatment of pilon fractures.
