Diverticular disease is basically a disorder of muscle function, particularly of the sigmoid colon. Increase in tone of the muscle layers of the bowel with consequent muscular thickening of a characteristic pattern. The thickening is not a true cellular hypertrophy and there is no evidence of muscle cell hyperplasia. This case serves to illustrate the multiple routes which may occur in the dissemination of carcinoma of the stomach of the large bowel. Spread along the gastrocolic ligament involves the superior aspect of the transverse colon with limitation laterally by the phrenicocolic ligament. The uptake of (67)Ga in biopsy specimens of normal and abnormal tissue was measured in 20 cases of colonic and rectal disease and the ratio between the (67)Ga uptake in these diseases and in the normal colon or rectum was determined. Uptake of the isotope was high in most of the 14 primary malignant tumours, being highest in poorly differentiated tumours. This uptake was found to be concentrated at the active tumour edge. Uptake of the isotope was generally low in non-malignant lesions.

BACKGROUND: Little is known about the efficacy and safety of single-balloon enteroscopy (SBE) in patients with Peutz-Jeghers syndrome (PJS). The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy and safety of SBE for the treatment of small bowel polyps in patients with PJS.

We report a case of a 63-year-old male who experienced an iatrogenic sigmoid perforation repaired combining three endoscopic techniques. The lesion was large and irregular with three discrete perforations, therefore, we decided to close it by placing one clip per perforation, and then connecting all the clips with two endoloops. Finally we chose to use a fibrin glue injection to obtain a complete sealing. Four days after the colonoscopy the patient underwent a laparoscopic right hemicolectomy due to evidence of a large polyp of the caecum with high grade dysplasia and focal carcinoma in situ.
