Bisphosphonate associated osteonecrosis of the jaws (ONJ) usually commences at the alveolus. Comparison is made between the structure and function of long bones and alveolar bone and the differing susceptibilities of the bisphosphonates at these different sites are explored. Current concepts of the causation of ONJ are discussed. The clinical implications of these findings to dentists managing periodontal conditions are presented.

Schwannoma of the head and neck region is relatively uncommon. We report a case of schwannoma arising from the left mental nerve. A 21-year-old male presented at our hospital with a painless swelling of the left cheek. Because the lesion had rapidly increased in size, a malignant tumor was suspected. OBJECTIVE: To report our experience on pedicled partial-thickness clavicular graft (PPCG) for oromandibular reconstruction.
STUDY DESIGN: PPCG was used for oromandibular reconstruction after tumor resection in 23 patients with early-stage gingival carcinoma but were eager for postoperative dental implant therapy for restoration of good occlusal function. PPCG was harvested during neck dissection. The sternocleidomastoid (SCM) myocutaneous flap was also harvested in 18 cases. The immediate and permanent frequency of injury to the marginal mandibular branch of the facial nerve (MMN) after neck dissection has only scarcely been addressed in the medical literature. We investigated the risk of injury in 159 consecutive patients after neck dissection for various reasons in level I B and level II A, respectively. BACKGROUND: In oral cavity, oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the most common malignant neoplasm. Established risk factors for OSCC include tobacco use, genetic predisposition, viral infections, and poor oral hygiene. BACKGROUND: Significant oral function is often lost after surgical therapy for head and neck cancer. The use of osseointegrated implants for reconstruction in patients with head and neck surgery has shown to significantly improve the quality of life for these patients. Variable success rates range from 99% to 70%.
METHODS: A retrospective audit of patient records was performed looking at cumulative survival of implants. Inclusion criteria were patients who were treated at 1 of 2 designated Australian Head and Neck Units and received oral osseointegrated implants.

PURPOSE: Regev et al. first re-introduced the method of atraumatic tooth extraction with orthodontic elastics in 2008. Since then, the method has been mentioned regularly in literature. Nevertheless, the need for additional more detailed information remains.
METHODS: We present a review of literature and a retrospective analysis of our three patients receiving bisphosphonate medication. Two of our patients suffered from bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (BRONJ). All three patients underwent atraumatic tooth extraction, which we describe in detail.

56 patients have been treated with cerebral gangliosides by the Authors. They underwent a maxillo-facial operation due to various pathological reasons (traumas, tumors, malformations). They presented secondary symptoms such as neurological deficits of the V and VII paired cranial nerves. The recovery from neurological sensitive, motor deficit have been positive, and the Authors have been encouraged to the therapeutical use of gangliosides in the mentioned pathology and to a wider experiment of the test product.
