OBJECTIVES: To present our experience with a sigmoid orthotopic neobladder.
METHODS: We retrospectively evaluated the functional and oncological outcomes of 160 patients who underwent orthotopic neobladder reconstruction using a detubularized 20-25-cm sigmoid segment at our institution. Each patient was evaluated every 3 months the first year, every 6 months for the next 4 years and annually thereafter. PURPOSE: We studied clinical outcomes, especially regarding colorectal adenocarcinoma, in patients who underwent ureterosigmoidostomy in early childhood between 1944 and 1961.

A case of endometriosis of the sigmoid colon on imprint cytology from an intraoperative biopsy is discussed. Cytologic specimens showed sheets or tubular epithelial clusters and stromal fragments. The epithelial cell nuclei were small and round to ovoid with finely granular chromatin and inconspicuous nucleoli. The background showed a few scattered spindle-type stromal cells without pigment-laden histiocytes. A definitive diagnosis of endometriosis can be based on cytology, provided that the cytologic findings are interpreted in the appropriate clinical context.

Malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) of the sigmoid colon is extremely rare and imaging characteristics of MFH during contrast-enhanced sonography have not been described yet. Here we report the case of a 55-year-old man suffering from MFH in the sigmoid colon, with an emphasis on contrast-enhanced sonography findings.

Evaluation of enteric fistulas is often best performed with barium contrast studies. Clinical situations that preclude the satisfactory installation of barium decrease the yield of the study. We report on a patient who developed a urethrogluteal fistula 11 years following cystectomy performed for carcinoma of the bladder. The diagnosis was established by retrograde urethrography and fistulography. To the best of our knowledge, no previous case has been reported in the literature.
