Polyanionic compounds have emerged as one of the most promising cathode materials for potassium-ion batteries (PIBs) owing to their high operating voltage and excellent stability. Among them, the iron-based fluorosulfate KFeSO4F stands out with its unique 3D framework structure and low cost. However, its intrinsic low electrical conductivity and proneness to agglomeration result in inferior electrochemical performance. Additionally, the solvothermal synthesis method commonly used for its preparation is not amenable to large-scale production. Herein, we report the large-scale synthesis of a low

This study aimed to explore the protective effects of quercetin and curcumin against kidney damage caused by gamma radiation in male albino rats. The rats were categorized into six groups. Group I served as the untreated control. Group II received quercetin at a dose of 1.25 g/kg body weight daily by oral gavage for four weeks, followed by a nine-day break, then resumed for an additional three weeks. Group III was treated similarly with curcumin at 100 mg/kg body weight. Group IV was subjected to whole-body gamma irradiation (four doses of 2 Gy every 72 h over four weeks). Group V received bot

Biobased reactive diluents are an alternative to fossil-based compounds, such as styrene, used in industrial-scale manufacturing. We proposed a more scalable, sustainable, and applicable synthesis of methacrylated biobased monomers involving a cheap and affordable catalyst, potassium acetate, as a substitute for the currently used 4-dimethylaminopyridine (DMAP). Also, the isolation of the formed byproduct during the synthesis, methacrylic acid, is involved in the introduced approach to reduce disposal waste and increase the production process's scalability. The synthesized biobased monomers ba

Habitual consumption of low-calorie sweeteners (LCS) during juvenile-adolescence can lead to greater sugar intake later in life. Here, we investigated if exposure to the LCS Acesulfame Potassium (Ace-K) during this critical period of development reprograms the taste system in a way that would alter hedonic responding for common dietary compounds. Results revealed that early-life LCS intake not only enhanced the avidity for a caloric sugar (fructose) when rats were in a state of caloric need, it increased acceptance of a bitterant (quinine) in Ace-K-exposed rats tested when middle-aged. These b

This study evaluates the degradation and detoxification of okadaic acid (OA), a marine biotoxin, through UV-assisted photochemical processes using environmentally relevant OA concentrations. Experiments were conducted in distilled water (DW) and artificial seawater (ASW), applying two UV sources: UV-LED (λmax = 275 nm) and low-pressure mercury lamp (LP-Hg; λ = 254 nm), combined with hydrogen peroxide (HP), sodium peroxydisulfate (PDS), and potassium peroxymonosulfate (PMS). Photolysis alone was ineffective, and kinetic rate constants (kobs; min-1) followed the trend UV/PMS > UV/PDS > UV/HP for

Cardioprotection refers to the natural capacity of heart tissue to resist damage under conditions such as ischemia-reperfusion and various metabolic stresses. First identified in the phenomenon of ischemic preconditioning, the concept has since broadened to encompass other triggers of protective signaling, including hypoxia, temperature shifts, and a wide range of pharmacological compounds. This expansion indicates the presence of common molecular pathways and defense mechanisms. Known intracellular contributors to cardioprotection involve numerous factors, such as protein kinases, the reperfu

Hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) is a widely recognized toxic heavy metal pollutant, yet its intrinsic oxidative potential remains underutilized. The observation that Cr(V) generated during sulfite- or photocatalyst-mediated Cr(VI) reduction exhibits efficient oxidation of coexisting organic compounds has prompted exploration of potential Cr(VI)-based heterogeneous catalytic systems. Herein, waste polyethylene was upcycled via a controlled salt-template pyrolysis strategy to synthesize carbon nanoscale catalysts (LCSs) with engineered defect structures. These LCSs synergistically amplified the oxi

Magnesium (Mg) plays a pivotal role as an essential component of plant chlorophyll and functions as a critical coenzyme. However, research exploring the regulatory mechanisms of magnesium ions on the synthesis of secondary metabolites is still in its early stages. Sophora tonkinensis is a widely utilized medicinal plant in China, recognized for its diverse secondary metabolites with active properties. This study investigates variations in these ingredients in tissue-cultured seedlings under varying magnesium concentrations. Simultaneously, an omics data analysis was conducted on tissue-culture

Gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) is a critical inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system that plays a vital role in modulating neuronal excitability. Dysregulation of GABAergic signaling, particularly involving the cotransporters NKCC1 and KCC2, has been implicated in various pathologies, including epilepsy, schizophrenia, autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome, and ischemia. NKCC1 facilitates chloride influx, whereas KCC2 mediates chloride efflux via potassium gradient. Altered expression and function of these cotransporters have been associated with excitotoxicity, inflammatio

A novel leaching-roasting-leaching strategy was used to recover valuable metals from zinc oxide dust containing intractable germanide. In the ultrasonic enhanced oxidation leaching stage, potassium permanganate and ultrasonication were introduced to strengthen the dissolution of sulphide. During the roasting stage, sodium carbonate and magnesium nitrate were added to promote the reaction between the insoluble tetrahedral germanium dioxide and complex forms of germanium-containing compounds. Simultaneously, the sulphur produced in the ultrasonic enhanced oxidation leaching stage was used to cha

Domestic wastewater (DWW) contains a reservoir of nutrients, such as nitrogen, potassium, and phosphorus; however, emerging micropollutants (EMPs) hinder its applications in resource recovery. In this study, a novel class of nanofiltration (NF) membranes was developed; it enabled the efficient removal of harmful EMP constituents while preserving valuable nutrients in the permeate. Neutral (IM-N) and positively charged (IM-P) imidazole derivative compounds have been used to chemically functionalize pristine polyamide (PA) membranes to synchronously inhibit the hydrolysis of residual acyl chlori

INTRODUCTION: The thionamide anti-thyroid drugs namely carbimazole, methimazole, and propylthiouracil, have been the predominant therapy modality for Graves' hyperthyroidism for over 60 years. Although these agents have proven efficacy and favorable side-effect profiles, non-thionamide alternatives are occasionally indicated in patients who are intolerant or unresponsive to thionamides alone. This review examines the available non-thionamide drug options for the control of Graves' hyperthyroidism and summarizes their clinical utility, efficacy, and limitations.

'Old-generation' potassium (K) binders [i.e. sodium (SPS) and calcium polystyrene sulfonate] are widely used, but with substantial heterogeneity across countries to treat hyperkalaemia (HK). However, there are no randomized data to support their chronic use to manage HK, nor have they been shown to have a renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system inhibitor (RAASi)-enabling effect. These compounds have poor tolerability and an unpredictable onset of action and magnitude of K lowering. Furthermore, SPS may induce fluid overload, owing to the fact that it exchanges K for sodium. Its use has also been

In the Indian subcontinent, danta (stems) of underutilized amaranth are used as vegetables in different culinary dishes. At the edible stage of the danta, leaves are discarded as waste in the dustbin because they are overaged. For the first time, we assessed the colorant pigments, bioactive components, nutrients, and antiradical potential (AP) of the leaves of danta to valorize the by-product (leaf) for antioxidant, nutritional, and pharmacological uses. Leaves of danta were analyzed for proximate and element compositions, colorant pigments, bioactive constituents, AP (DPPH), and AP (ABTS+). D
