Rapid forced eruption: a case report and review of forced eruption techniques.

This article reviews the infrequently utilized treatment method of forced eruption and how it can serve as an alternative to the sacrifice of the natural root system. Forced eruption can preserve the natural root system and related periodontal architecture, resulting in years of additional service for the patient. It also can maintain adjacent tooth structure while retaining the option for future implant reconstruction. Given the reported success of forced eruption, the technique requires greater attention and increased application among dentists. A case of forced eruption in the anterior maxi

Pericoronal radiolucencies and the significance of early detection.

Pericoronal radiolucencies are common radiographic findings encountered in general dental practice. They usually represent a normal or enlarged dental follicle that requires no intervention; alternatively they may represent a pathological entity that requires appropriate management and histopathological interpretation. A pericoronal space of greater than 2.5mm on an intraoral radiograph and greater than 3mm on a rotational panoramic radiograph should be regarded as suspicious. Although many pathological processes may present radiographically as pericoronal radiolucencies associated with unerup

The nonfunctional immediate provisional in immediate extraction sites: a technique to maximize esthetics.

Patients demand the esthetic replacement of missing teeth in an economic and expedient manner. When teeth are extracted, or have been missing for some time, the resorption process often limits the opportunity to replace those missing teeth with dental implants. The technique presented allows the restoration of missing teeth while maintaining the hard and soft tissues. It also prevents the patient from having to wear a removable appliance during the healing phase, and this maximizes the patient's comfort and esthetics. The new method described here has been used in 55 patients with a success ra

Eruption process of upper permanent canine.

The purpose of this study was to investigate normal eruptive pattern of upper permanent canine. One hundred and fifty-one panoramic radiographs were used. Inclination of upper canine and lateral incisor, length and horizontal and vertical positions of cusp and root apex of the canine were evaluated. The canine erupted with increasing distal inclination and with no significant changes of the lateral incisor. Developmental changes of the canines relative to palatal plane and midline were shown by figures.

Thermo-mechanical loading of innovative "Mini-skirt" preparation design versus conventional full-coverage maxillary central incisor preparation design: an in vitro study.

BACKGROUND: Conventional full-coverage anterior crown preparations for zirconia often require substantial enamel and dentine reduction and may concentrate palatal-cervical stresses, risking marginal discrepancy and compromised seal. A conservative "Mini-skirt" (MS) design that positions the palatal finish line coronally (above the cingulum) could preserve tooth structure and enhance adhesive support, but its thermo-mechanical performance under thermal cycling and fatigue loading remains unclear. PURPOSE: To evaluate whether a conservative MS anterior preparation, with a palatal finish line ab

Effect of fatigue loading and failure mode of different ceramic implant abutments.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Currently many options are available for restoring a dental implant, although the ideal implant abutment for withstanding the occlusal load and the restorative material for fulfilling the esthetic need remains unclear. Zirconia (Zir) abutments offer good esthetics, but concerns still remain regarding their fracture strength, complex fabrication, and higher cost as compared with those of titanium (Ti) base abutments offering lower cost, acceptable esthetics, and a straightforward procedure. PURPOSE: The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the fracture strength

The pathogenesis of excessive wear in the deciduous teeth of sheep.

The teeth and various supporting and ancillary tissues were examined post mortem from two flocks of sheep, one of which had previously shown high deciduous incisor wear. Sheep were killed in groups selected on clinical signs at equivalent ages from birth to 116 weeks of age. At the end of this time the lengths of clinical crowns of the remaining deciduous incisor teeth in the high wear flock were not measurable, whereas the other flock had up to 5.5 mm in visible crown. Using the cingulum as a marker, measurements were made from extracted teeth of the attrition of the crown and size of the roo

Socket-Shield Technique and Concentrated Growth Factors for Implant Placement in the Esthetic Zone: A Two-Year Case Report.

This clinical report presents a two-year follow-up of a case involving a traumatic tooth fracture, successfully managed using a combination of the socket-shield technique and concentrated growth factors (CGF). The patient, a 26-year-old female, experienced fractures in teeth #21 and #22 following a road traffic accident. For the restoration of tooth #22, the socket-shield technique was employed to preserve the buccal root fragment, maintaining the natural contour of the surrounding soft and hard tissues. The socket was then filled with CGF to promote wound healing and facilitate tissue regener

Endodontic and aesthetic management of a conoid tooth with type IIIA dens invaginatus.

BACKGROUND: Dens invaginatus is a dental developmental abnormality caused by an infolding of the enamel organ into the adjacent dental papilla before the calcification of the dental tissues. The clinical presentation of dens invaginatus varies according to its severity, from mild forms, in which we might find a deeper than normal cingulum pit, to severe cases, in which there is a pronounced infolding reaching the apical foramen. The very nature of the invagination favours the contamination from the oral environment to the pulp space and the onset of caries. Therefore, patients might present wi

Remodeling of canines to the shape of lateral incisors by grinding: a long-term clinical and radiographic evaluation.

A long-term clinical and radiographic follow-up study was performed after extensive remodeling of the permanent teeth of 26 adolescent patients. The canines were ground to the shape of lateral incisors as part of the orthodontic treatment, and the patients were recalled after 10 to 15 years for clinical examinations. Grinding had been performed either unilaterally or bilaterally on 37 teeth. Unground canines or adjacent teeth served as control or reference teeth. Standardized intraoral radiographs were taken with a paralleling technique. Enamel surface replicas produced by epoxy resin in silic

Extraction of teeth 11 and 21 due to gemination and space closure with skeletal anchorage in a patient with class III tendency: a case report.

Tooth gemination is a dental phenomenon in which a single tooth bud attempts to divide into two, resulting in the formation of a structure that appears as two teeth but originates from the same follicle. This partial separation is often indicated clinically by a groove or depression that suggests the presence of two distinct teeth (Rajeswari M, Ananthalakshmi R. 2011. Gemination-case report and review. Indian Journal of Multidisciplinary Dentistry). The distinction between gemination and fusion plays an important role in treatment planning. If the number of teeth is one less, the tooth is fuse

Effect of Lossy JPEG Compression on AI Diagnostic Output Stability in Panoramic Radiograph Analysis.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the effect of lossy JPEG compression on the output stability of a commercial AI system applied to panoramic radiographs. METHODS: One hundred panoramic radiographs were saved as uncompressed TIFF (reference standard) and at five JPEG compression levels (CL) - 90, 70, 50, 30, and 10 (J90-J10). All 600 images were processed by a commercial dental AI system (X-ray Insights, dentalXrai GmbH) which assigned binary labels for nine diagnostic categories across 32 tooth positions per image. Agreement between each compressed image and the system's own uncompressed output was qu

[The incidence of local plaque retentive factors in chronic periodontitis].

One of the leading local risk factors for chronic periodontitis is the presence of plaque retentive factors in the oral cavity. The main objective of the study was to assess how the local irritation and plaque retention caused by untreated carious lesions, subgingival and approximal overhanging crown margins can affect the attachment loss at patients with chronic periodontitis. The incidence of plaque retentive factors were evaluated on 200 panoramic radiographs randomly selected from the archive of the Department of Periodontology. On the radiographs each fully erupted tooth were studied unde
