CoSpine open access simultaneous cortico-spinal fMRI database of thermal pain and motor tasks.

Simultaneous cortico-spinal functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) enables non-invasive investigation of integrated central nervous system function, but acquisition challenges have restricted the availability of public datasets and slowed the development of advanced analytic methods. Here, we introduce the CoSpine database, the first open-access, BIDS-compliant cortico-spinal task-based fMRI resource (N = 61), acquired using a novel single-field-of-view (FOV) imaging protocol covering the whole brain (including cortical, subcortical, brainstem, and cerebellar regions) and cervical spinal

Development and evaluation of a microfluidic human testicular tissue chip: a novel in vitro platform for reproductive biology and pharmacology studies.

Organ-on-a-chip culture systems using human organ tissues provide invaluable preclinical insights into systemic functions in vitro. This study aimed to develop a novel human testicular tissue chip within a microfluidic device employing computer-aided design software and photolithography technology. Polydimethylsiloxane was used as the primary material to ensure marked gas permeability and no biotoxicity, enabling effective mimicry of the in vivo testicular microenvironment. This biochip preserved the structural integrity and cellular composition of human testicular tissue, as well as part of i

Comprehensive Speciation and Computational Study of Cu2+ and Zn2+ Complexation with O-Phosphorylethanolamine and O-Phosphorylcholine in Aqueous Solution.

An extensive study on the interactions between O-phosphorylethanolamine (PEA) and O-phosphorylcholine (PPC), Cu2+ and Zn2+, is thoroughly described. The formation constants were determined at different temperatures (15 ≤ t/°C ≤ 37) and ionic strengths (0.15 ≤ I/mol L-1 ≤ 0.97) by potentiometric titrations. For the Zn2+-PEA/-PPC systems, speciation models were also confirmed by 1H NMR titrations at t = 25 °C and I = 0.15 mol L-1 in NaCl. Sequestering abilities were calculated under different temperatures and physiological conditions. Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations along with enhan

Deep learning-based CAD system for Alzheimer's diagnosis using deep downsized KPLS.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most prevalent type of dementia. It is linked with a gradual decline in various brain functions, such as memory. Many research efforts are now directed toward non-invasive procedures for early diagnosis because early detection greatly benefits the patient care and treatment outcome. Additional to an accurate diagnosis and reduction of the rate of misdiagnosis; Computer-Aided Design (CAD) systems are built to give definitive diagnosis. This paper presents a novel CAD system to determine stages of AD. Initially, deep learning techniques are utilized to extract fea

Protocell Survival Networks in Spatially Modulated Chemical Gradients.

Coupling molecular-level chemical networks to macroscopic functions provides a step toward the implementation of rudimentary forms of agency in life-like objects and materials. Here, a negative feedback circuit within a networked binary protocell community is linked to higher-level spatial dynamic behaviors by exposing the consortium to a unidirectional reaction-diffusion gradient of an activator. The activator initiates artificial lysis and release of protocell-encapsulated enzymes, which spatiotemporally restrict membrane disassembly to generate distinct protocell survival boundaries within

Research on Object Detection and Tracking Methods for aLow-Speed Mobile Platform.

Enhancing the positioning stability and accuracy of autonomous following systems poses a significant challenge, particularly in dynamic indoor environments susceptible to occlusion and interference. This paper proposes an innovative approach that integrates Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology with computer vision-based gait analysis to overcome these limitations. First, a low-power, high-update-rate UWB positioning network is established based on an optimized Double-Sided Two-Way Ranging (DS-TWR) protocol. To compensate for UWB's deficiencies under Non-Line-of-Sight (NLOS) conditions, a visual gai

Robust Real-Time Sperm Tracking with Identity Reassignment Using Extended Kalman Filtering.

Accurate and real-time sperm tracking is essential for automation in Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) and fertility diagnostics, where maintaining correct identities across frames improves the reliability of sperm selection. However, identity fragmentation, overcounting, and tracking instability remain persistent challenges in crowded and low-contrast microscopy conditions. This study presents a robust two-layer tracking framework that integrates BoT-SORT with an Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) to enhance identity continuity. The EKF models sperm trajectories using a nonlinear state that i

Strategies to Improve the Efficiency of Enzymatic Carbon Dioxide Conversion In Vitro.

With the rapid industrial development, massive fossil fuel use has caused excessive carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, triggering global warming and environmental issues. Thus, CO2 recovery and reuse have become a research focus, among which artificially designed in vitro biocatalytic pathways for converting CO2 into high-value chemicals show promise, with advantages like shorter routes, higher efficiency and lower energy consumption compared to natural pathways. However, challenges remain due to natural enzymes' issues in specificity, affinity, efficiency, stability and oxygen sensitivity. To ta

Enhancing perceptual consistency and calibrating uncertainty for real-time table tennis ball detection.

Driven by advancements in computer vision and machine learning, automated systems have made remarkable strides in capturing real-time dynamics in table tennis. However, table tennis ball detection still faces numerous challenges. First, the ball's small size, rapid motion, and variable trajectories result in complex image positions, making accurate detection difficult. Moreover, background interferences such as spectators, billboards, and referees can lead to target confusion, while lighting variations further increase detection uncertainty. These factors collectively contribute to the complex

Understanding the Effect of Surface-Grafted Polyethylene Glycol Chains on Scavenger Endothelial Cell Sequestration of Polymeric Nanoparticles via Quantitative Pharmacokinetic Analysis in Zebrafish Larvae.

Scavenger endothelial cells (SECs) lining the liver sinusoids play a critical role in the rapid blood clearance of nanoparticle (NP)-based drug-delivery systems. However, how these cells recognize synthetic materials is largely unknown, which hampers the establishment of NP design criteria for prolonging their blood circulation time upon systemic administration. This study investigates how the surface-grafted chain conformation on the NPs affects their uptake by SECs. Polystyrene NPs are grafted with polyethylene glycol (PEG) polymers having different molecular weights (MWs = 2, 5, 10, and 20

Amorphous A-BiOI@PEG Nanoenzyme Targets Imaging and Synergistic Phototherapy in Differentiated Thyroid Cancer.

The integration of medical nanomaterials into cancer diagnosis and treatment presents a multifaceted challenge, given the simultaneous necessity of achieving high targeting and excellent diagnostic and therapeutic efficacy. Herein, a PEGylated amorphous BiOI (a-BiOI@PEG) nanoenzyme is developed, whose abundant unsaturated bonds, iodine-containing delivery systems, and reduced bandgap facilitate active/passive uptake by thyroid cancer cells and response to second near-infrared (NIR-II), respectively. This allows for accurate DTC-specific targeting of tumor cells for ultrasound and computer tomo

Computer-aided approaches for human norovirus drug discovery: a comprehensive review.

INTRODUCTION: Human norovirus is the leading global cause of viral acute gastroenteritis, with an estimated ~685 million cases and ~200,000 deaths annually. No licensed antivirals or vaccines are currently available. Despite historical limitations in robust in vitro models, structure and ligand-based computational approaches - supported by protease and polymerase crystal structures - have identified multiple chemotypes as potential antivirals. AREAS COVERED: This review provides an overview of all studies reported to date, indexed in public databases, in which computer-aided drug discovery (C
