Transcutaneous Electrical Acupuncture Point Stimulation Is Cardioprotective for Patients With Stable Ischemic Heart Disease.

We evaluated the effects of electroacupuncture (EA) at Neiguan and Ximen on the prognosis of patients with stable ischemic heart disease. A total of 240 patients symptomatic with suspected coronary artery disease referred for coronary angiography were analyzed, and 232 patients (62.3 ± 9.1 years) with stable ischemic heart disease were included. The primary end point was major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs), defined as a composite of recurrent angina requiring hospitalization, nonfatal acute myocardial infarction, cardiogenic death, and death from any other causes. Over a mean follow-up…

Efficacy of electro-acupuncture on pregnancy outcomes for women undergoing in vitro fertilization: study protocol for a pilot randomized controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a technology that assists couples experiencing infertility to conceive children. However, unsuccessful attempts can lead to significant physical and financial strain. Some individuals opt for electro-acupuncture (EA) during IVF, even though there is limited evidence regarding the efficacy of this practice. Thus, this pilot study aims to explore the effectiveness and safety of EA during IVF on pregnancy outcomes. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: This clinical trial is a parallel, randomized, sham-controlled study. It aims to include a total of 118 infertile w

Protective effect of electro-acupuncture at maternal different points on perinatal nicotine exposure-induced pulmonary dysplasia in offspring based on HPA axis and signal transduction pathway.

Perinatal nicotine exposure can not only lead to lung dysplasia in offspring, but also cause epigenetic changes and induce transgenerational asthma. Previous studies have shown that electro-acupuncture (EA) applied to "Zusanli" (ST 36) can improve the lung morphology and correct abnormal expression of lung development-related protein in perinatal nicotine exposure offspring. However, it is still unclear whether ST 36 has a specific therapeutic effect and how maternal acupuncture can protect the offspring from pulmonary dysplasia. In this study, we compared the different effect of ST 36 and "Fe

Comparative metabolomics study on therapeutic mechanism of electro-acupuncture and moxibustion on rats with chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG).

Some studies have proved that both acupuncture and moxibustion are very effective for the treatment of CAG. However, little is known about therapeutic mechanism of electro-acupuncture and moxibustion on CAG as well as the difference between them. On the other hand, metabolomics is a 'top-down' approach to understand metabolic changes of organisms caused by disease or interventions in holistic context, which consists with the holistic thinking of electro-acupuncture and moxibustion treatment. In this study, the difference of therapeutic mechanism between electro-acupuncture and moxibustion on C

Neural mechanism of pupillary dilation elicited by electro-acupuncture stimulation in anesthetized rats.

The neural mechanisms to reflex dilation elicited by electro-acupuncture stimulation were investigated in anesthetized rats. Two needles, with 160 microns diameter and about 5 mm apart, were inserted into the skin and underlying muscle of a hindpaw. Repetitive 20 Hz, 0.5 ms electrical pulses at various intensities were used for stimulation for 30s. The pupil size was magnified about 44 times via a microscope and was continuously recorded on a videotape. Electro-acupuncture stimulation at more than 0.5 up to 6 mA induced stimulus intensity-dependent pupil dilation. These responses were abolishe

Potential mechanisms of acupuncture in regulating neuroinflammation and central sensitization in chronic pain: a narrative review of preclinical, clinical, and translational evidence.

Chronic pain (CP) is not a single disease. Its mechanisms vary across patients and pain phenotypes. In many cases, persistent pain is related to neuroinflammation and central sensitization. Acupuncture, especially electroacupuncture, is widely used in clinical practice. Recent evidence suggests that acupuncture may provide more than a short-time pain relief, potentially by modulating neuroinflammation and central sensitization. However, the relationships among acupuncture, neuroinflammatory regulation, central sensitization, and phenotype-specific clinical responses remain unclear. This narrat…
