AIMS: Patients with schizophrenia frequently show insufficient vitamin D levels, which are associated with somatic comorbidity and may contribute to psychopathology. For many reasons, vitamin D supplementation may be indicated for this patient cohort. However, there is growing evidence for a vitamin D-mediated increase of drug metabolism by induction of cytochrome P450 (CYP) 3A4. The study aim was to assess the abuse/misuse potential of second-generation antipsychotics (SGAPs) using VigiBase data. We extracted individual case safety reports of "Drug abuse, dependence and withdrawal" involving SGAPs up to June 2018. We assessed disproportionate reporting by calculating the information component, considering the lower end of the 95% credibility interval for the information component (IC025 ), and the proportional reporting ratio. OBJECTIVES: Carbamazepine and quetiapine are drugs that are used as mood stabilizers in the treatment of bipolar disorders. A series of studies has shown that concurrent use of carbamazepine decreases quetiapine serum level due to induction of CYP3A enzymes by carbamazepine.
METHODS: In a 30-year-old bipolar patient with mania treated with quetiapine 1200 mg and carbamazepine 900 mg per day, we measured quetiapine serum level before and after carbamazepine withdrawal.

OBJECTIVES: Quetiapine is an atypical antipsychotic with favorable properties in the treatment of bipolar disorder, but it has recently been associated with respiratory dysfunction.
METHODS: In this case report, we describe a patient who developed quetiapine-induced hyperventilation and dyspnea after being treated with quetiapine.
RESULTS: To our knowledge, this is the first case presented with quetiapine-induced hyperventilation in a patient with bipolar disorder.
CONCLUSIONS: We recommend a quick reduction of the quetiapine dosage and a change to an alternative antipsychotic for patients

Hyponatremia secondary to the syndrome of inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone (SIADH) is an uncommon complication of treatment with centrally acting drugs including selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and antipsychotic medications.
