Changes in visual function under mesopic and photopic conditions after intrastromal corneal ring segment implantation for different stages of keratoconus.

PURPOSE: To analyze and compare the changes in visual function under mesopic and photopic conditions in different stages of keratoconus before and after Keraring intrastromal corneal ring segment (ICRS) implantation. SETTING: Clinico San Carlos Hospital and Faculty of Optics and Optometry, Complutense University, Madrid, Spain. DESIGN: Case series. METHODS: Keratoconic eyes were evaluated under mesopic (0.1 to 0.2 candelas [cd]/m(2)) and photopic (85 cd/m(2)) conditions. LogMAR high-contrast corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) and low-contrast CDVA were assessed using the Bailey-Lovie t

[Predictive factors for successful Ferrara intracorneal ring segment implantation in keratoconus].

OBJECTIVE: To define predictive factors after manual implantation of intrastromal corneal ring segments (Ferrara ring) for the management of keratoconus. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Twenty-five eyes of 25 patients with keratoconus were implanted with Ferrara intracorneal ring segments using a mechanical procedure. We measured corneal ring implantation depth, best spectacle-corrected visual acuity (BSCVA), as well as refractive and keratometric outcomes. Patients were separated into two groups according to the gain of at least two lines of BSCVA ("good response") or the gain of only one line of BSCV

PURPOSE: To compare astigmatism correction using shorter arc length 90°/120° asymmetric Intacs severe keratoconus (SK) versus 150° single-segment Intacs SK in cases of asymmetric keratoconus. METHODS: Retrospective prospective study in patients of asymmetric keratoconus with more than 2 diopters (D) of refractive astigmatism. Group 1 included 16 eyes of 16 patients who underwent 150° single-segment Intacs SK implantation, and group 2 included 16 eyes of 12 patients who underwent asymmetric shorter arc length 90°/120° Intacs SK implantation. Patients younger than 35 years were cross-linked. Pa

Correction of astigmatism after cataract surgery using the light adjustable lens: a 1-year follow-up pilot study.

PURPOSE: The management of preoperative and residual astigmatism is critical to obtain optimized uncorrected visual acuity. The aim of this study was to determine whether residual astigmatism could be precisely corrected postoperatively using the Light Adjustable Lens (LAL, Calhoun Vision Inc) and to determine the stability of the adjusted refraction. METHODS: Ten eyes of 10 patients with cataract and corneal astigmatism between 1.00 and 2.00 diopters (D) were included. After standard phacoemulsification and implantation of the LAL, adjustment and lock-in procedures were completed. Before adj

Modified 3-piece intraocular lens of iris fixation technique in the management of cases without capsular support: Sutureless iris fixation (Dağ technique).

To describe a sutureless technique for iris fixation of a 3-piece intraocular lens (3P-IOL) in the anterior chamber in eyes without capsular support, and to evaluate its outcomes. Twelve patients (10 aphakic, 2 with 3P-IOL subluxation post-Yamane technique) underwent detailed ophthalmologic evaluation. In required cases, anterior vitrectomy and 0.01% carbachol (Miostat, Alcon Laboratories, Fort Worth, TX, USA) were used to achieve miosis. Two mid-peripheral iridectomies were created with a vitrectomy probe. After viscoelastic injection, a 3P-IOL (SENSAR, Johnson and Johnson Vision, USA) was in

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to assess the surgical and visual outcomes of a sutured intraocular lens (IOL) fixation approach performed without creating a scleral flap or tunnel in aphakic eyes without posterior capsule support. METHODS: In this retrospective study, we evaluated aphakic patients who underwent surgery using the ab externo scleral fixation technique that involved tying IOL fixation sutures on the sclera and placing the suture ends under the Tenon's capsule without opening the scleral flap.
