A research agenda for malaria eradication: modeling.

Malaria modeling can inform policy and guide research for malaria elimination and eradication from local implementation to global policy. A research and development agenda for malaria modeling is proposed, to support operations and to enhance the broader eradication research agenda. Models are envisioned as an integral part of research, planning, and evaluation, and modelers should ideally be integrated into multidisciplinary teams to update the models iteratively, communicate their appropriate use, and serve the needs of other research scientists, public health specialists, and government off

Clinical research in a hospital--from the lone rider to teamwork.

Clinical research of high international standard is very demanding and requires clinical data of high quality, software, hardware and competence in research design and statistical treatment of data. Most busy clinicians have little time allocated for clinical research and this increases the need for a potent infrastructure. This paper describes how the Norwegian Radium Hospital, a specialized cancer hospital, has reorganized the clinical research process. This includes a new department, the Clinical Research Office, which serves the formal framework, a central Diagnosis Registry, clinical data

Trends and Disparities in Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-Cell Therapy Utilization, Inpatient Mortality, Length of Stay, and Costs in the United States (2017 to 2022).

Since Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval in August 2017, chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy has rapidly transformed the treatment landscape of relapsed or refractory hematologic malignancies. However, national data describing variation in adoption across disease indications, sociodemographic groups, hospital characteristics, and geographic regions remain limited. In addition, real-world data describing inpatient outcomes, including mortality, length of stay (LOS), and hospitalization costs, remain incompletely understood. We aimed to investigate trends in inpatient CAR-T

Effects of self-acupressure on the fatigue-sleep disturbance-depression symptom cluster in breast cancer survivors: a phase III randomised controlled trial.

PURPOSE: To explore the effectiveness and safety of self-acupressure intervention on the fatigue-sleep disturbance-depression symptom cluster (FSDSC) among breast cancer (BC) survivors and to explore within-trial costs associated with the intervention. METHODS: Eligible participants were randomly allocated to a true self-acupressure group, a sham self-acupressure group or a usual care group (36 in each). The primary outcomes were the FSDSC at both the individual symptom level and cluster symptom level. Individual symptoms were measured by the Brief Fatigue Inventory, the Pittsburgh Sleep Qual

Characteristics and Outcomes of External Referral Patients Undergoing Cytoreductive Surgery at an International Peritoneal Surface Malignancy Program.

BACKGROUND: Peritoneal surface malignancy (PSM) patients often seek care outside their local health systems. Understanding the implications of care for these externally referred patients is critical for optimizing resource allocation and value-based care delivery. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Patients who underwent cytoreductive surgery ± heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy (CRS ± HIPEC) at an international PSM program between 2022 and 2024 were categorized as in-system (IS; referrals within our integrated network) or out-of-system (OOS; referrals from external institutions). Demographic, oncologic,

Physical and Psychological Effects of Home-Based vs Face-to-Face Prehabilitation in Individuals With Severe Obesity Awaiting Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Obesity is a growing public health issue associated with comorbidities and substantial medical costs. Although bariatric and metabolic surgery (BMS) is often recommended for individuals with severe obesity, prehabilitation may optimize their physical and psychological status. However, face-to-face delivery can limit accessibility, and evidence on home-based approaches remains scarce. OBJECTIVE: This study protocol aims to compare the effectiveness of a home-based prehabilitation program with a face-to-face prehabilitation program on physical and psychological variables in individu

Protocol for a digital health-assisted cluster randomised controlled trial to prevent obesity in preschool children in Jinan, China.

INTRODUCTION: Early childhood obesity has become a major public health concern globally. The preschool period (ages 4-6 years) represents a critical window for obesity prevention due to its long-term implications on growth trajectories and behaviour formation. However, existing evidence for effective interventions targeting this age group remains limited and inconsistent, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: The Peking University-Smart Monitoring and Responsive Technology for Early Childhood Health is a cluster-randomised controlled trial designed to evaluat

Acute Exercise Effects on Cognitive Flexibility in Preterm and Full-Term Children: An Event-Related Potential Study.

Background: Preterm birth is associated with impairments in executive functions (EFs), particularly in cognitive flexibility, which is essential for adaptive and goal-directed behavior. While acute exercise has been shown to transiently enhance cognitive flexibility in children born full-term, its effects in preterm children remain poorly understood. This study aimed to examine the effects of acute aerobic exercise on cognitive flexibility and its underlying neural mechanisms in preterm children, and to determine whether these effects are comparable to those observed in full-term peers. Method

Addressing the High and Rising Global Burden of Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD) and Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatohepatitis (MASH): From the Growing Prevalence to Payors' Perspective.

BACKGROUND: The continuum of metabolic syndrome encompasses a spectrum of dysfunctions impacting obesity-linked insulin resistance, glucose homeostasis, lipid metabolism and pro-inflammatory immune responses. The global prevalence of metabolic diseases, including diabetes, chronic liver disease, cardiometabolic disease and kidney disease, has surged in recent decades, contributing significantly to population mortality. Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), formerly known as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, is a leading cause of liver disease worldwide. MASLD poses

Estimation of anti-seizure medication need among people with patients in Lao PDR.

OBJECTIVE: Epilepsy is a chronic condition that can be treated by cost-effective anti-seizure medication (ASM). In Lao PDR, the first generation of ASM is widely used, particularly phenobarbital, due to covering a range of epilepsies and the low cost of treatment. However, limited access to phenobarbital has been documented, potentially due to the import quotas of phenobarbital allocated by the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB), which does not allow adequate coverage for the populations. This study aimed to estimate the number of epilepsy or suspected epilepsy cases consulting publi

Optimising surgical anastomosis in ileocolic resection for Crohn's disease with respect to recurrence and functionality: two international parallel randomized controlled trials comparing handsewn (END-to-end or Kono-S) to stapled anastomosis (HAND2END and the End2End STUDIES).

BACKGROUND: The most common intestinal operation in Crohn's disease (CD) is an ileocolic resection. Despite optimal surgical and medical management, recurrent disease after surgery is common. Different types of anastomoses with respect to configuration and construction can be made after resection for example, handsewn (end-to-end and Kono-S) and stapled (side-to-side). The various types of anastomoses might affect endoscopic recurrence and its assessment, the functional outcome, and costs. The objective of the present study is to compare the three types of anastomoses with respect to endoscopi

UK robotic arthroplasty clinical and cost effectiveness randomised controlled trial for hips (RACER-Hip): a study protocol.

INTRODUCTION: The number of robotic-assisted hip replacement procedures has expanded globally with the intended aim of improving outcomes. Intraoperative robotic-arm systems add additional costs to total hip replacement (THR) surgery but may improve surgical precision and could contribute to diminished pain and improved function. Additionally, these systems may reduce the need for expensive revision surgery. Surgery with conventional instruments may be just as successful, quick and affordable. There is timely demand for a robust evaluation of this technology. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: The Robotic

Tonsillectomy versus tonsillotomy for recurrent acute tonsillitis in children and adults (TOTO): study protocol for a randomized non-inferiority trial.

BACKGROUND: Tonsillectomy is one of the most frequently performed surgeries in children and young adults worldwide. For decades, tonsillectomy was the surgical treatment of choice for recurrent acute tonsillitis. Tonsillotomy was used in some countries as an alternative to tonsillectomy only for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea in young children. In recent years, an increase of tonsillotomy also to treat recurrent acute tonsillitis can be observed. Therefore, the German Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care (IQWiG) was commissioned by the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA) to
