Long-term excessive fluoride ingestion may lead to skeletal fluorosis, a disease characterized by unclear pathogenesis and lack of effective cure. Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles (BMSCs-EVs) exert a crucial regulatory effect on bone remodeling and have broad clinical application prospects. Whether BMSCs-EVs can participate in the occurrence and development of skeletal fluorosis by transferring miRNAs is a scientific question worth exploring. In this study, miRNA sequencing was used to screen for differentially expressed miRNAs in fluoride-exposed rBMSCs-EVs (F-

Dental caries is strongly associated with biofilm-forming bacteria such as Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus acidophilus, and improving the antimicrobial performance of restorative materials remains a major challenge in preventive dentistry. Glass ionomer cements (GICs) exhibit favorable properties including chemical adhesion and fluoride release, yet their intrinsic antibacterial activity remains limited. This study investigated the incorporation of four cannabinoid-rich fractions (F1, F2, F3, and F4) into glass ionomer cements and evaluated their structural, antimicrobial, and biologica

Endemic fluorosis from high-fluoride groundwater is a global concern. While fluoride exposure is linked to male infertility, the mechanisms remain unclear. This study utilized male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats and in vitro immortalized human testicular Sertoli (iHTS) cells to investigate the potential mechanisms underlying sodium fluoride (NaF)-induced testicular damage. In vivo, three-month NaF exposure caused testicular tissue disorganization, decreased sperm viability and motility, and increased sperm abnormalities. Furthermore, NaF exposure significantly altered the oxidative stress status in

Limited evidence exists regarding the comparative fluoride release of different glass ionomer restorative materials used in clinical dentistry. Therefore, it is of interest to evaluate and compare the fluoride release of Type II GIC, Ketac Molar, and Ketac Universal at different time intervals. Fluoride ion release from these materials was assessed over 1, 7, and 28 days using a UV-visible spectrophotometer. Significant differences in fluoride release were observed among the materials (p < 0.001). Ketac Universal showed the highest fluoride release at all evaluated intervals. Fluoride release

Background Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is a topical solution of silver (Ag+), and fluoride (F-) ions stabilised with ammonia. Despite excellent antibacterial efficacy and remineralisation potential, its clinical use is limited due to the staining of the carious tooth structure caused by silver compound deposition, creating an aesthetic concern among the patients. Hence, there is a need to develop non-staining SDF modifications or alternatives.Aim To investigate the effect of incorporating tannic acid (TA) and glutathione (G) (5%, 10%, 15% w/v) into 38% SDF on dentine staining-minimisation, a

CONTEXT: Perfluorohexanone (C6F12O, Novec 1230) has emerged as a leading halon alternative for fire suppression due to its near-zero ozone depletion potential and short atmospheric lifetime, yet its high-temperature decomposition can generate hydrogen fluoride (HF), posing secondary damage risks to protected assets-particularly in enclosed spaces housing cultural heritage artifacts where corrosive gas exposure must be minimized. Although the qualitative effects of inert dilution and an additional fluorinated component can be anticipated, formulation design requires quantitative information on

Fluoride is a widespread environmental toxin that disrupts metabolic and endocrine functions, but its impact on pancreatic inflammation and hormone secretion remains unclear. This study examined how chronic fluoride exposure affects pancreatic inflammation and secretory function in rats. Pregnant Wistar rats received sodium fluoride (NaF) at 50 mg/L in drinking water during gestation and lactation. Male offspring continued exposure until 3 months old. Controls received fluoride-free water. Pancreatic tissue and serum were collected. Fluoride levels were measured potentiometrically. Eicosanoids

XFn (X = Xe, Rn, Og; n = 2, 4) are important rare gas compounds, but they have received limited theoretical attention. There still exist controversies over the lowest energy structure of OgF4. In this work, the CCSD(T) method with spin-orbit coupling (SOC) is employed for determining geometries, harmonic frequencies, and dissociation energies of these heavy and superheavy rare gas fluorides. Our results show that the lowest-energy structure for XF2 is D∞h and that for XF4 is D4h. In addition, a Td structure emerges for OgF4 with SOC, lying about 2 kcal/mol above the D4h structure. Moreover, a

BACKGROUND: Sodium fluoride (NaF) is a daily necessity consumed as the major ingredient of fluorinated drinking water, milk, salts, mouthwashes, toothpaste, and dentistry medications. However, the use of NaF products has also been associated with increased fluoride anion distribution in the body, leading to hypertension.
AIM: This study evaluated the antihypertensive effect of sweet orange peels-enriched white melon seed protein concentrate (WSP) biscuit meal in eight-week-old albino rats exposed to NaF for 14 days.
METHODS: Forty-two (42) male Wistar albino rats were assigned at random into

This study investigated the effects of arginine, with/without sodium fluoride (NaF), on mature oral microcosm biofilms and enamel calcium loss (ECL). Saliva-derived biofilms grown on bovine enamel for three days were subsequently assigned to their respective test groups and cultured until day seven (n = 9/group). Biofilm parameters and ECL were assessed. Reductions in the number of lactobacilli were observed with arginine at 2.5%/8% concentrations, with/without NaF, while 8% arginine, with/without NaF, reduced the number of all microorganism groups. The addition of 8% arginine and combinations

IspG (also known as GcpE) is a key [4Fe-4S] metalloenzyme that catalyzes the penultimate step of the methylerythritol phosphate (MEP) pathway, a well-established target for the development of new antimicrobials. This oxygen-sensitive enzyme mediates the reductive dehydroxylation of 2-C-methyl-d-erythritol 2,4-cyclodiphosphate (MEcPP) to (E)-4-hydroxy-3-methylbut-2-en-1-yl diphosphate (HMBPP), requiring electron transfer proteins to deliver two electrons needed for catalysis. To probe the mechanism of IspG and access new mechanism-based inhibitors, we synthesized a substrate analogue, monofluor
