Recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) injury is a well-known and serious complication to thyroid surgery. The objective was to estimate the frequency of post-thyroidectomy RLN palsy and to identify possible risk factors. Based on the Danish national thyroid surgery database, 6,859 patients treated with thyroid surgery from 1 January 2001 to the 31 December 2008 at the Danish departments of ENT-HNS were analyzed. BACKGROUND: The purpose of this article is to present the results of radiotherapy with or without neck dissection for squamous cell carcinoma of the supraglottic larynx at the University of Florida and to compare these data with those obtained after conservation surgery.

Medullary carcinoma of the thyroid (MTC) is exceptional in that the hormone calcitonin produced by the tumor cells represents a specific and sensitive tumor marker. Careful screening by serial calcitonin determinations following pentagastrin stimulation allows for the early detection of metastatic disease. The authors report a case of stroke in a young adult patient caused by intracranial internal carotid artery dissection--result of rapid neck movement. The patient developed hemiparesis, but all neurologic symptoms completely regressed after rehabilitation and now (18 months) after stroke there are no neurological symptoms.

A 73-year-old man came to us with a second primary tumor of the tongue base. He had undergone a total laryngectomy, neck dissections, and radiation for squamous cell carcinoma of the glottis 25 years earlier. Surgery was performed, including a subtotal tongue-base resection and pectoralis myocutaneous flap reconstruction. The histological frequency and distribution of cervical lymph node metastases was studied in 326 neck dissections from 253 patients with an intraoral/oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma. Metastasis was evident in 118 patients (47%) and 18 had bilateral metastasis. INTRODUCTION: Pipkin-III femoral head fracture dislocation is a rare injury and its outcome is guarded. Some authors believe femoral neck fracture of Pipkin-III injury is largely iatrogenic. OBJECTIVE: To determine the safety and effectiveness of a new low-profile, laser-cut, closed-cell stent system in the treatment of complex intracranial aneurysms.
METHODS: A total number of 43 patients with complex intracranial aneurysms were treated using 60 Acandis Acclino stent systems (follow-up 2012-2016; mean 11 months). 36 patients presented with wide-necked intracranial aneurysms, dissecting aneurysms were seen in 7 patients. 39 patients received stent-assisted coiling.
