BACKGROUND: The simultaneous occurrence of advanced cervical cancer and a pelvic kidney is uncommonly reported. It is an interesting clinical problem because the pelvic kidney lies within the radiation field.
CASE: A patient found to have bilateral pelvic kidneys and stage II-B cervical cancer underwent an anterior exenteration. The Liver Cancer Study Group of Japan established a classification of macroscopic type and the TNM staging of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC). Conversation surgery for glottic carcinoma has two goals: preserving normal laryngeal function and achieving a rate of local control similar to total laryngectomy. A retrospective study was made of the medical charts of 424 patients diagnosed as glottic carcinoma and treated with conservative surgical procedures at the Gregorio Marañón en University of Hospital of Madrid, Spain, between 1962 and 1991. Our treatment protocol for patients with early or intermediate-stage glottic carcinoma is presented.

It is very difficult to obtain accurate staging of mediastinal lymph node metastases (N-staging) in patients with lung cancer. We recommend combined thoracoscopy and mediastinoscopy for the assessment of N-staging. The indications and techniques of these combined procedures are described in this paper. Combined thoracoscopy and mediastinoscopy may provide more accurate N-staging of lung cancer than either procedure alone or a non-invasive staging procedure.

We studied changes in the prognosis of cancer of the rectum (excluding the rectosigmoid junction) from 1978 to 1986 in the French department of Calvados on the basis of the 616 cases in the cancer registry.
