BACKGROUND & AIMS: Mucosal healing, determined by histologic analysis, is a potential therapeutic target for patients with ulcerative colitis (UC). However, the histologic features of tissue normalization, as an outcome of treatment, have not been well described. A series of 130 consecutive outpatients with recurrent aphthous stomatitis were screened at the oral medicine department, Glasgow Dental Hospital, for deficienciesin vitamin b12, folic acid, and iron. In 23 patients (17.7%) such deficiencies werefound; five were deficient in vitamin B12, seven in folic acid, and 15 in iron. Four had more than one deficiency. The prophylactic value of gentamicin combined with either lincomycin or metronidazole in 52 patients undergoing colorectal surgery was investigated. The results confirmed the value of this practice. BACKGROUND: Cancer is a significant global health problem. Radiotherapy is a treatment for many cancers and about 50% of patients having radiotherapy with be long-term survivors. Some will experience late radiation tissue injury (LRTI) developing months or years later. BACKGROUND: The efficacy and safety of prostate SBRT in men with mCRPC is unknown.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A prospective cohort study was conducted with 125 men diagnosed with mCRPC. All patients received ADT plus chemotherapy. Patients were randomly assigned to receive daily prostate SBRT (36-48 Gy in 6-8 fractions). Patients who did not receive SBRT served as controls.
