An 82-year-old woman was treated for pseukophakic bullous keratopathy with a penetrating keratoplasty complicated by a postoperative retinal detachment. The retina was reattached successfully but impaired visual acuity remained. She was lost to follow-up for 14 months. The authors' own clinical observations have shown that a pressure-lowering effect in secondary glaucomas resistant to therapy can be obtained by photocoagulation of the pars plicata of the ciliary body using an argon laser. We have reviewed a series of 36 patients with the basal cell nevus syndrome seen at Roswell Park Memorial Institute from 1950 to 1978. Among these patients a number of disastrous complications occurred. We describe two patients with BRAF-mutated melanoma of the epithelioid cell type arising from primary acquired melanosis with severe atypia of the right bulbar conjunctiva. Patient 1 was a 71-year-old Japanese man. After adjuvant cryotherapy and enucleation of the right eyeball, therapy with vemurafenib was administered for a distant metastasis to a lumbar vertebra, accompanied by erythema multiforme and two keratinous tumours. PURPOSE: To report the safety and efficacy of Ahmed glaucoma valve implantation in the management of secondary glaucoma in children and adolescents.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: 6 patients with secondary glaucoma underwent Ahmed valve implantation. 1 patient had aphakic glaucoma, 3 patients had traumatic glaucoma, 1 patient had aniridia and 1 patient had ectropion uveae. IOP values range from 35 to 51 mmHg (mean 41.3 mmHg), with maximal medical treatment by this time. Mean follow-up was 2.17 years.
RESULTS: Mean pooperative IOP ranged from 2 to 8 mmHg (mean 6 mmHg), during the first week. 6 months

We retrospectively review our experience with four patients with Streptococcus pneumoniae scleritis. Two of the patients had been exposed to beta irradiation after pterygium removal 4 and 13 years previously. One patient had a 3-year history of chronic anterior nodular scleritis, and one patient had severe rheumatoid arthritis. All were treated with intensive i.v. and topical fortified antibiotics.
