Despite efforts to improve iron supplements for iron deficiency anemia, there is no consensus on products that balance efficacy, safety and tolerability, and cost. Reactive oxygen species (ROS)-activated aminoferrocene-based anticancer prodrug candidates successfully take advantage of intrinsically high amounts of ROS in tumor tissues.
