BACKGROUND: Injuries to the medial structures of the knee are common in multi-ligamentous knee injuries (MLKIs), which account for 0.02% of orthopedic injuries each year. The most common medial structure involved is the superficial medial collateral ligament (sMCL) with possible additional injury to the posterior oblique ligament (POL) and deep medial collateral ligament (dMCL). There has been little evidence for the superior management of these structures regarding the use of repair or reconstruction to reproduce overall knee function. Although reconstruction may provide more valgus stability

BACKGROUND: Arthroscopic anterior talofibular ligament repair (AATFLR) is a surgical strategy to treat chronic ankle instability (CAI) patients. This study identified risk factors that influenced the functional outcomes of AATFLR for CAI and developed prognostic nomogram for predicting functional outcomes in future AATFLR cases.
METHODS: Patients undergoing AATFLR from January 2016 to June 2022 with at least 10 months of follow-up were included in the study. The Karlsson Ankle Functional Score (KAFS) was evaluated preoperatively and at last follow-up visit. A total of 15 potential predictors

BACKGROUND/AIM: Oral injuries such as oral soft tissue lacerations and contusions can occur in basketball by mechanisms such as running into other players or falling. Given a high enough impact force, dental injuries such as tooth fractures and avulsions can occur. Previous research has studied the different types of oral injuries as well as the mechanisms that cause them. Yet, the mechanisms resulting in dental injuries have remained unexplored. The aims of this study were to investigate the distribution of different oral injuries within each injury mechanism and evaluate which mechanisms wer

We report the long-term results of Bernese periacetabular osteotomy using a dual approach in hip dysplasia. Fifty-three hips (49 patients, mean age 39.9 years: 13-62 years; bilateral hips: four patients) that underwent periacetabular osteotomy using a dual approach (combined Smith-Peterson and Kocher-Langenbeck techniques) between May 1997 and December 2005 were analyzed in this study. The clinical and radiologic outcomes and complications were analyzed and the final survival rates of the operated hips were investigated with survival analysis curves. Forty-nine hips survived until the final fo

BACKGROUND: Chronic ankle instability (CAI) is a condition that often develops after repeated ankle sprains, increasing the suceptability of the ankle to move into excessive inversion when walking on unstable surfaces. Treatment for CAI costs approximately three billion health care dollars annually. Currently, common diagnostic tools used to identify ankle instability are arthroscopy, imaging, manual laxity testing, and self-reported questionnaires.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this systematic review was to investigate the effectiveness of ultrasonography in diagnosing CAI, in comparison with othe

STUDY DESIGN: To report the techniques and surgical results of posterior lumbar interbody fusion with restoration of the lamina and facet fusion.
OBJECTIVES: To present a technique to reconstruct the posterior construct in posterior lumbar interbody fusion.
SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: Successful arthrodesis in posterior lumbar interbody fusion requires both a large amount of graft and maximal graft filling, it also requires an excessive distraction of neural structures and excessive removal of the facet-lamina structure, which plays a significant mechanical role, especially in rotatory stabi

Large open elbow fractures with extensive soft-tissue loss must be treated as an emergency. Vessels and nerves are often alvulsed. One stage reconstruction is very challenging. Ischemia of the distal part of the upper extremity is limited by a synthetic arterial shunt (SAS). After debridement, the authors install the SAS, then the complex procedure can begin. The authors purpose a new four-stage classification and prognostic factors. Debridement concerns crushed, devitalised soft and osteo-articular tissues. If it appears possible to salvage the hand and forearm with necessity of complex recon

Intrusive luxation is a serious dental injury that causes damage to the pulp and supporting structures of a tooth because of its dislocation into the alveolar process. This paper presents the case of the re-eruption of a severely intruded immature permanent incisor with a crown-root fracture. A 9-year-old boy was referred to the clinic 1 day after a fall. Clinical and radiographic examinations revealed intrusive luxation of the immature left permanent incisor and a crown-root fracture without pulp exposure. Palatal gingivectomy was done 2 weeks later to facilitate re-eruption. Root canal thera

Sixty-nine patients (seventy-eight elbows) who had rheumatoid arthritis were managed with a Coonrad-Morrey total elbow arthroplasty between 1981 and 1986. At the time of the present review, forty-one patients (forty-six elbows) were alive and had been followed for at least ten years after the procedure (Group 1). The remaining twenty-eight patients (thirty-two elbows) had died or had had a revision less than ten years after the procedure or had been followed for less than ten years (Group 2). The patients in Group 1 had a younger mean age at the time of the procedure, but all other preoperativ

BACKGROUND/AIM: Appropriate first-aid management of traumatic dental injuries (TDIs) is highly time-sensitive and critically influences prognosis. Parents frequently represent the first point of contact following injury. Although the ToothSOS mobile application (App) is based on current guidelines of the International Association of Dental Traumatology, evidence integrating usability assessment using validated instruments with longitudinal knowledge retention in parental populations remains limited. This study evaluated the usability of the ToothSOS App using the validated System Usability Sca

INTRODUCTION: Isolated rupture of the flexor digitorum profundus tendon within flexor zone 3 is exceptionally rare and easily mistaken for the far more common zone 1 "Jersey finger" lesion. To the best of our knowledge, only two such middle-finger cases have been documented over the past six decades. Reporting this case, together with a literature synthesis, highlights the diagnostic pitfalls and supports timely, tendon-preserving intervention.

Non-physiologic storage of avulsed teeth leads to a high incidence of root resorption, resulting in poor prognosis. This study investigated the suitability of specially composed cell culture media for storage of extracted teeth for up to 48 hours. Autoradiographic investigations revealed that the proliferative activity of periodontal ligament (PDL) cells of teeth stored in cell culture medium for up to 48 hours increased with storage time. Studies on proliferation of PDL cells after storage of teeth in different media for up to 24 hours demonstrated that the proliferative activity is dependent
