Allergic reactions to acrylates in sculptured nails are common. However, there are few reports of paresthesia as a consequence of acrylic exposure, and such paresthesia does not necessarily accompany the evolution of the dermatitis.

Acquired digital fibrokeratoma (ADF) is an uncommon benign tumor of fibrous tissue that presents as smooth, dome-shaped or fingerlike, flesh-colored papules that are mostly located on the distal extremities. As it can easily be misdiagnosed for other common benign lesions such as viral warts, which usually are not subject to routine histopathologic examination, it might be underreported. We report 13 patients with ADF diagnosed in our clinic in the past 4 1/2 years.

The objective of this study is to determine the effect of emollients in a propanol-based hand rub on skin dryness and erythema. In this prospective, randomized, controlled, double-blind trial, 35 subjects participated; of them approximately half were atopic (modified Erlanger atopy score > or =8). 2 propanol-based formulations were tested in a repeated open application test, 1 contained a mixture of emollients (0.81%, w/w). 2 aliquots of 0.7 ml of each formulation were applied twice per day over 2 weeks to the cubital fossa of each subject after random assignment of the preparations. Porokeratosis is a specific disorder of keratinization that has five clinical types and shows a characteristic 'cornoid lamella' on histopathology. Malignant degeneration has been described in all forms of porokeratosis. Tungiasis is an important health problem in poor communities in Brazil and is associated with severe morbidity, particularly in children. The causative agent, the female flea Tunga penetrans, burrows into the skin of its host, where it develops, produces eggs and eventually dies. BACKGROUND: Tinea pedis and tinea manuum in children are more common than previously recognized. Clinical presentations of dermatophyte infections may vary in children and may be difficult to diagnose.
OBJECTIVE: To show the necessity of potassium hydroxide preparations and/or fungal cultures in assessing suspicious cases of cellulitis in children who may have dermatophyte infections.

Atypical mycobacterial infections of the skin present a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge to dermatologists in many instances. We report on a patient who was diagnosed with atypical mycobacteriosis in its rarer, sporotrichoid form. Possible differential diagnoses are discussed. Efficient therapy using minocycline is demonstrated.
