PURPOSE: Approximately 50% of knee osteoarthritis patients are eligible for unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA), but only 10%-15% of knee replacements are UKAs. Higher UKA revision rates may prevent broader implementation. The hypothesis was that up to 40% of UKA revisions are potentially avoidable based on a radiographic analysis of indications, surgical technique and reasons for revision.

BACKGROUND: Lateral patellar luxation (LPL) is commonly diagnosed in large or giant breed dogs. In the surgical outcome for canine LPL, approximately half of the patients had complications, including reoperation and relaxation. Medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction has been widely used for human repetitive patellar luxation. In connection with 23 different patellar instabilities, the author makes some diagnostical and treatment consideration. The patients were between 18 and 40 years old, 13 women and 10 men. From the clinical point of view there were found 2 simple instabilities, 3 external dislocations, 6 permanent dislocations, 9 relapsed dislocations and 3 of them were habitual. The results in first time were good and excellent in 90 percent. It was a single relapse and by 4 of the patients which have been in watch for five years it was found arthrosis without major functional signs.

A statistical study was carried out on the incidence of CDH associated with mechanical factors in the uterus, including congenital genu recurvatum. There were 72 cases of CDH among 6559 infants (1.1 per cent). The incidence of CDH was 0.7 per cent in cephalic presentation, 2 per cent in footling presentation and 20 per cent in single-breech presentation. In another series, CDH was found in six of seven infants with congenital genu recurvatum. These findings suggest that a fetal posture with the hip flexed and the knee extended predisposes to the development of CDH.
