Associations between the 3D position of the mental foramen with sagittal skeletal relationships (classes I, II, and III) and vertical facial growth patterns (normal, long, and short faces) in different ages and sexes: a retrospective cohort study of 360 CBCTs.

BACKGROUND: The 3D position of the mental foramen (MF) is of significant clinical value in dental implantology and mandibular surgeries or in local anesthesia. Despite its importance, it is not clearly known how the position of MF can alter in different individuals, since the literature on the associations between the MF position with vertical growth patterns is non-existent and those on links between the MF position and skeletal malocclusions are scarce. Therefore, we aimed to investigate these, for the first time, on cone-beam computed tomographies (CBCTs). METHODS: Archival CBCTs of 9 sub-

Lingual treatment of an adult patient with an iatrogenic class II anterior open bite: Report of a case with a non-surgical orthodontic approach.

INTRODUCTION: The treatment of adult patients presenting an open bite is a real challenge for orthodontists due to the complexity of the malocclusion. The diagnosis is essential to identify aetiological factors and establish the best aesthetic and functional therapeutic prognosis. Among the aetiological factors, iatrogenic treatment history has to be considered. It is the case here where a regrettable unsuitable splint for bruxism treatment forced an open bite to appear. MATERIAL AND METHOD: This case report presents an adult women with a large open bite due to an occlusal splint not covering

Predictors of bruxism, other oral parafunctions, and tooth wear over a 20-year follow-up period.

AIMS: To analyze predictors of bruxism, other oral parafunctions, and tooth wear in a group of subjects who had been examined 20 years earlier. METHODS: Originally, 402 randomly selected 7-, 11-, and 15-year-old subjects were examined clinically and by means of a questionnaire. Twenty years after the first examination, 94% of the original group could be traced, and 320 (85%) completed and returned the questionnaire. Of the oldest group, 100 (81%) also underwent a clinical examination focusing on occlusal factors and function and dysfunction of the masticatory system. For analyses of predictor

[A prefabricated, calibrated double-base procedure--KDMMS. For the simulation and 3-dimensional planning using an articulator in orthognathic surgery].

A tight cooperation between the orthodontist and oral surgeon is a key factor for success in orthognathic surgery. The quality of the final result is determined a great deal by the pre-operative model-surgery. The KDMMS is a planning tool which allows, even in the most complex cases, accurate and quick model-surgery. The two main components of the KDMMS are the double base plates and the model positioning system, which resemble a "fixation extérieure". The double base plates enable the operator to reproduce the original, pre-operative situation at all times. This allows multiple set-ups for on
