In 1960-1987, 2387, 2352 cases of larynx cancer were treated and observed. In 1484 (63.1%) cases the cancer of the epiglottis was found, in 851 (36.2%)--in glottis and in 17 (0.7%) in subglottis. Cancers of supraglottis, in 60.0% cases. were in state III and IV of clinical advance and cancers of glottis in the same state were found in 20.6% of cases. Generally 52.4% of cases of epiglottis cancer were cured of and 74.4% of glottis cancer. Relative survivals were accordingly: 59.0% and 87.0%. This article presents the case of an infant who on routine physical examination at the age of 5 months was found to have hepatomegaly. The initial investigation revealed borderline liver function tests, and ultrasonography showed multiple space-occupying lesions. Further workup using different imaging techniques, urinary vanillylmandelic acid, serum catecholamines, and liver biopsy led to the diagnosis of stage IV-S neuroblastoma. No primary site outside of the liver could be demonstrated. The tumor regressed spontaneously.

Small, deep ovarian endometriomas are not easily diagnosed. In 52 infertile patients, laparoscopy demonstrated enlarged ovaries (maximum diameter 3.5 to 5 cm) with a smooth whitish surface and no mature follicles, corpora lutea, or other cysts. According to the principle "gastrectomie de nécessité" a total gastrectomy may have to be performed when the distance between the proximal edge of the tumour and the cardia is less than an adequate margin of security. The main reason for advocating this principle is that a large number of patients (ca. 20%) can profit by the advantages of a partial resection above all concerning the nutritional status and the quality of life. Against this principle it is argued that in the presence of a diffuse type carcinoma the risk of local recurrence is considerably higher.

Two major TNM classification systems are currently in use for staging cancer of the head and neck region, i.e. UICC and AJC. This causes confusion when attempting to exchange information and evaluate treatment results between Australia and certain overseas centres. Lymphography was performed in 28 patients with mycosis fungoides. In 22 of the patients, the investigation took place prior to 2 months after the diagnosis was established, and in 7 of these lymphography was made before the histological verification of mycosis fungoides was possible. BACKGROUND: This study aimed to establish a nomogram to distinguish advanced- and early-stage lung cancer based on coagulation-related biomarkers and liver-related biomarkers.
METHODS: A total of 306 patients with lung cancer and 172 patients with benign pulmonary disease were enrolled.
