Hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia: a unique approach to esthetic and prosthetic management: a case report.

Hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia is a rare congenital disease that affects several ectodermal structures. The condition is usually transmitted as an x-linked recessive trait, in which gene is carried by the females and manifested in males. Manifestations of the disease differ in severity and involve teeth, skin, hair, nails and sweat and sebaceous gland. Ectodermal dysplasia is usually a difficult condition to manage. Prosthodontically, because of the typical oral deficiencies, and afflicted individuals are quite young to receive extensive prosthodontic treatment, which restores their appeara

Premolarized double dens in dente in albinism--a case report.

Dens in dente are known to be associated with many dental abnormalities such as taurodontism microdontia, gemination, and dens evaginatus. Peeping through heart's window: a case report of Fallots tetralogy.

Tetralogy of Fallot is a congenital heart defect. A combination of four abnormalities in heart allow oxygen rich and oxygen-depleted blood to mix. The resulting low-oxygen blood then circulates through the body. A child with the condition tends to develop slowly, eat poorly and grow slowly and may experience "blue" spells on crying and dyspnea on exertion. A 12 year old child with this congenital heart defect and cleft palate with cleft lip is discussed. Details of the latest diagnostic and treatment procedures are also presented.

Dermatoglyphic peculiarities in children with oral clefts.

In humans, the development of the primary palate and the lip is completed by the 7th week of intra uterine life and that of secondary palate by 12th week. The dermal ridges develop in relation to the volar pads, which are formed by the 6th week of gestation and reach maximum size between 12th and 13th weeks. This means that the genetic message contained in the genome--normal or abnormal is deciphered during this period and is also reflected by dermatoglyphics. Hence this study was done in order to observe the differences in dermatoglyphic patterns between the children with oral clefts and norm

A compound composite odontoma associated with unerupted permanent incisor--a case report.

Odontomas are the most common type of odontogenic tumors and generally they are asymptomatic. Frequently it may interfere with the eruption of the teeth. This is a case report of a compound composite odontoma in a 9 year old girl, which results in failure of eruption of the permanent upper right central incisor while the contralateral tooth had erupted. A calcified mass was seen in the radiograph and was provisionally diagnosed as odontoma following which the odontoma was enucleated. Routine follow up was done for more than a year and no recurrence was seen. This case report indicates that ear

Mucus extravasation phenomenon on the alveolar ridge in neonate: a case report.

Pediatric dentists often come across lesions in neonates, the most common ones being Bohn's nodules and Epstein Pearls. Other common lesions seen in the oral cavity of neonates are congenital epulis, hemangiomas and mucus extravasation cysts. Mucus extravasation phenomenon is generally encountered over the lip but rarely seen over the alveolar ridge. Presented here is a case of a 1-month-old baby with a mucus extravasation cyst measuring 0.7 x 1 cm in size over the alveolar ridge.

Efficacy and acceptabilty of oral-transmucosal midazolam as a conscious sedation agent in pre-school children.

The purpose of the present study was to test the efficacy of oral-transmucosal route of administration of midazolam in young potentially un-cooperative children. A sample of 40 children up to 4 years of age with ASA I status were randomly divided into experimental and control groups of 20 each. The children in experimental group received 0.5-mg/kg-body weight midazolam mixed in strawberry syrup via the oral-transmucosal route and those in control group were given the same syrup diluted with normal saline. A class II amalgam restoration was performed and routine behavior management techniques w

"Craniofacial and dental manifestations of a case of Proteus syndrome".

Proteus syndrome, which is a reference to the ancient Greek god Proteus, the Polymorphous, was called to the attention of pediatricians. Recognition of this syndrome has been difficult because of the variability of the syndrome's manifestations and because of its rarity. We describe a rare case of Proteus syndrome and we discuss its differential diagnosis. Our case presents with hemi facial hypertrophy, scrotal tongue, enamel hyperplasia as well as differential in the size of the dentition on both sides of the arch.

"Moebius syndrome": a case report.

Moebius syndrome is an extremely rare disorder characterized by a lifetime facial paralysis, involving sixth and seventh cranial nerves with malformations of orofacial structures and the limbs. In this case, an 8 year old girl with Moebius syndrome is presented, clinical findings are described and management aspects are discussed. Early dental evaluation and parental counselling as a part of preventive dental regimen can go a long way in providing complete psychosocial rehabilitation for such physically disabled children.

Management of two unusual cases of dens invaginatus and talon cusp associated with other dental anomalies.

The management of two unusual cases of dens invaginatus and talon cusp is presented. The first concerns talon cusp in maxillary primary and permanent lateral incisors, a supplemental tooth with dens invaginatus hampering eruption of the permanent incisors. The other present with bizarre crown morphology of a lateral incisor with talon cusp, dens invaginatus and a palatal accessory cusp-like structure. Early diagnosis and management are important to avoid complications.

Prevalence of supernumerary teeth in deciduous and mixed dentition.

Supernumerary teeth are the extra teeth which may have either erupted or unerupted in addition to normal dentition and are seen both in deciduous as well as permanent dentition. The incidence of supernumerary teeth shows more frequent occurrence in permanent dentition than deciduous dentition, affecting both the sexes. The etiology of supernumerary teeth is still unknown and not well understood, but thought to be the result from disturbance during the initiation and proliferation stages of tooth development. In the present study an attempt has been made to asses, its prevalence in deciduous an

Radicular cyst associated with endodontically treated deciduous tooth: a case report.

This article presents a case report of radicular cyst associated with an endodontically treated deciduous second molar causing displacement of the permanent successor, with accompanying buccal expansion. Cystic sac was removed surgically along with the involved tooth under general anesthesia. Healing was uneventful. Histopathologically the cystic sac was consistent with the features of radicular cyst. Unusual amorphous, eosinophilic, atubular material incorporated within the cystic epithelium was observed.
