Six mares had ovariohysterectomy performed for chronic pyometra associated with cervical abnormalities, uterine neoplasia, or removal of a macerated fetus. Twenty dogs with abscessation of the prostate gland were treated by celiotomy, drainage, and digital exploration of the gland through bilateral capsulectomy wounds. Omentum was introduced through the capsulectomy wounds and packed into the abscess cavities around the prostatic urethra. Most dogs were discharged from the hospital within 48 hours of the surgery. When lameness occurs in a load-bearing limb, compensatory load adjustments are made in the other supporting limbs. The vertical component of the ground reaction force, as measured by force platform analysis, reflects these adjustments. This study describes the pattern of vertical ground reaction force redistribution during experimental, chronic hindlimb lameness in dogs. The peak and impulse of the vertical ground reaction force were measured and described in 13 dogs before, and at 2, 6, and 12 weeks after transection of the cranial cruciate ligament. These variables were compared among limbs.

Popliteal tendon transposition was performed in five dogs with surgically induced cranial cruciate ligament rupture. After a lateral approach to the stifle joint, the popliteal tendon was severed distal to the sesamoid bone and transposed cranially onto the tibial crest to mimic the sagittal orientation of the cranial cruciate ligament. Congenital urethral sphincter mechanism incompetence is a cause of urinary incontinence in female dogs and cats. Magnetic resonance imaging was used to diagnose degenerative lumbosacral stenosis in four dogs that had physical and neurologic signs consistent with a cauda equina lesion. Surgical stapling equipment was used to perform an end-to-end colonic anastomosis in 15 cats for the treatment of acquired megacolon. An end-to-end stapling device was passed to the anastomotic site by a trans-cecal approach. Subsequent closure of the cecal incision was accomplished with a thoracoabdominal stapling device. Cystourethropexy was performed in 10 bitches with refractory urinary incontinence due to urethral sphincter mechanism incompetence. All animals had an abnormally shaped vesicourethral junction.
