Posttreatment attrition and its predictors, attrition bias, and treatment efficacy of the anxiety online programs.

BACKGROUND: Although relatively new, the field of e-mental health is becoming more popular with more attention given to researching its various aspects. However, there are many areas that still need further research, especially identifying attrition predictors at various phases of assessment and treatment delivery. OBJECTIVE: The present study identified the predictors of posttreatment assessment completers based on 24 pre- and posttreatment demographic and personal variables and 1 treatment variable, their impact on attrition bias, and the efficacy of the 5 fully automated self-help anxiety

Reconditioning Emotional Responses With the Break Method: Pilot Quantitative Study.

BACKGROUND: The Break Method is a structured, behavior-based emotional reconditioning program designed to help individuals gain insight into patterns of emotional dysregulation and reprogram behavioral responses rooted in past experiences. Although it has been widely adopted in private and small-group settings, empirical evidence supporting its effectiveness remains limited. With increasing interest in accessible, scalable, and personalized mental health interventions, evaluating the outcomes of such programs is essential for informing future implementation and research. OBJECTIVE: This pilot

Pre-CBT resting-state connectivity and white matter integrity in OCD remission: A multimodal MRI study.

BACKGROUND: Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is commonly treated with cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), yet many patients fail to achieve remission. Neuroimaging markers, such as pre-treatment functional and structural connectivity, may help elucidate OCD pathology and CBT mechanisms, and predict treatment outcomes. This study investigates the relationship between pre-treatment functional and structural connectivity and remission status in OCD patients following CBT. METHODS: Thirty-three OCD patients underwent multimodal MRI, including resting-state fMRI to assess pre-treatment function

Multi-Band Brain Network Analysis for Functional Neuroimaging Biomarker Identification.

The functional connectomic profile is one of the non-invasive imaging biomarkers in the computer-assisted diagnostic system for many neuro-diseases. However, the diagnostic power of functional connectivity is challenged by mixed frequency-specific neuronal oscillations in the brain, which makes the single Functional Connectivity Network (FCN) often underpowered to capture the disease-related functional patterns. To address this challenge, we propose a novel functional connectivity analysis framework to conduct joint feature learning and personalized disease diagnosis, in a semi-supervised mann

Functional Neuroimaging Test of an Emerging Neurobiological Model of Hoarding Disorder.

BACKGROUND: Over the past decade, functional neuroimaging studies have found abnormal brain function in several cortical systems when patients with compulsive hoarding behaviors make decisions about personal possessions. The purpose of this study was to use functional magnetic resonance imaging to test a neurobiological model of hoarding disorder (HD) that has begun to emerge from these small studies by confirming HD-related brain dysfunction in previously implicated brain regions in the largest sample of HD patients examined to date. METHODS: We compared 79 adults diagnosed with DSM-5 HD wit

Obsessive-compulsive disorder and the underlying structure of anxiety disorders in a nationally representative sample: confirmatory factor analytic findings from the German Health Survey.

The current study is the first to examine the underlying structure of anxiety disorders, including obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), to use professional clinical interviewers (psychologists), and to examine past-year rather than lifetime diagnoses. A confirmatory factor analysis was performed using diagnoses from a nationally representative mental health survey in Germany based on face-to-face structured clinical interviews (conditional response rate 87.6%). Participants were 4181 adults. The diagnosis of OCD is loaded on an Anxious-Misery factor. Our results revealed several unique finding

[Study of dissociative disorders and depersonalization in a sample of young adult French population].

UNLABELLED: Questioned by several researches about dissociative disorders, the authors study differences established on the nosographic register, through a quantitative study and a psychodynamic argumentation in a sample of french population. From the utilisation of the Dissociative Experiences Scale (DES) created by Bernstein E and Putnam FW (1986), which is an excellent screening tool for dissociative disorders and constructed on DSM II diagnostic criterions, the authors will show the interest of a psychodynamic analysis of dissociative disorders, in the face of the diagnostic difficulty in

Internet Gaming Disorder: Prevalence and associated factors among university students.

PURPOSE: Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) is a behavioral condition marked by excessive and compulsive gaming that disrupts personal, academic, and social life. University students are particularly susceptible to IGD due to their developmental stage, academic demands, and heavy reliance on technology. This study examines the prevalence and effects of IGD among university students and analyzes its impact on mental health, academic performance, and social relationships. Understanding this phenomenon is of paramount importance for developing effective prevention and intervention strategies that sup

[Diogenes syndrome and Hoarding disorder: Same or different?].

INTRODUCTION: In 2013, the American Psychiatric Association published the DSM-5. In this new version, new diagnoses were proposed including the Hoarding disorder. In the French semeiology, the Diogenes syndrome is described, among other symptoms, by a pathological tendency to accumulate objects called syllogomania which is very close to hoarding. This paper explores the similarities and differences between the two syndromes. DESCRIPTION: The Diogenes syndrome was first described in 1966 but was officially named for the ancient Greek philosopher in 1975 by Clark. Its frequency is around five f

Characterising the pharmacokinetics of olanzapine in patients with anorexia nervosa (TORPEDO): protocol for a multicentre cross-sectional study.

INTRODUCTION: Anorexia nervosa (AN) is a debilitating eating disorder with one of the highest mortality rates of all psychiatric disorders. The lifetime prevalence rates of AN might be up to 4% among females and 0.3% among males. According to a systematic review, the pooled incidence rate of AN in females is 8.8 per 100 000 person-years; 95% CI 7.8 to 9.8. The path towards full recovery is often long and only half of the patients recover completely after 10 years. As part of the treatment of AN, olanzapine is frequently used to reduce severe anxiety, agitation and obsessive compulsions. Due to

Prevalence and 10-Year Stability of Personality Disorders From Adolescence to Young Adulthood in a High-Risk Sample.

BACKGROUND: With the implementation of the 11th edition of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) in early 2022, there will be a radical change in the framework and process for diagnosing personality disorders (PDs), indicating a transition from the categorical to the dimensional model. Despite increasing evidence that PDs are not as stable as previously assumed, the long-term stability of PDs remains under major debate. The aim of the current paper was to investigate the categorical and dimensional mean-level and rank-order stability of PDs from adolescence into young adulthood

Psychological characteristic subtypes in adolescents with mental disorders and their associations with self-injury behavior and childhood maltreatment.

OBJECTIVES: Self-injury behavior is a prevalent mental health problem among adolescents. Childhood maltreatment is closely associated with the development of alexithymia, impulsivity, and self-injury behavior in adolescents and young adults with mental disorders; however, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. This study aims to classify psychiatric patients aged 12 to 24 years into psychological subtypes based on alexithymic and impulsive traits, to explore differences in self-injury behavior among these subtypes, and to examine whether different forms of childhood maltreatment are associa

Insight across mental disorders: A multifaceted metacognitive phenomenon.

There is now general agreement that lack of insight is not merely a fundamental aspect of delusions and hallucinations, or just a symptom of psychotic disorders but rather a multi-dimensional construct. Several different components of insight have been proposed and empirically examined during the last three decades, such as the ability to recognize that one has a mental illness, the capacity to relabel unusual mental events as pathological, the specific attribution of one's symptoms to having a mental illness, awareness of illness' consequences, and compliance with treatment.1 Insight impairme

Medications for Opioid Use Disorder, Opioid Withdrawal, and Opioid Overdose: A Review.

IMPORTANCE: Opioid use disorder (OUD) involves compulsive opioid use that causes substantial distress or impairment at work, school, or home. OUD, which is the third most prevalent substance use disorder worldwide, affected an estimated 3.7% of US adults (9 367 000) in 2022 and caused 53 774 deaths in the US in 2024. Medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) reduce morbidity and mortality. Individuals with OUD also benefit from medications to treat opioid withdrawal and reverse acute opioid overdose. OBSERVATIONS: Methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone are medications approved by the US Fo

Differential frontal-striatal and paralimbic activity during reversal learning in major depressive disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

BACKGROUND: Several lines of research suggest a disturbance of reversal learning (reward and punishment processing, and affective switching) in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD). Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is also characterized by abnormal reversal learning, and is often co-morbid with MDD. However, neurobiological distinctions between the disorders are unclear. Functional neuroimaging (activation) studies comparing MDD and OCD directly are lacking. METHOD: Twenty non-medicated OCD-free patients with MDD, 20 non-medicated MDD-free patients with OCD, and 27 healthy control
