Betulinic Acid Ameliorates T-2 Toxin-Induced Neuroinflammation by Suppressing Oxidative Stress via Regulating Nrf2/NLRP3 Axis.

T-2 toxin is widely present in agricultural products and poses a significant neurotoxicity threat. Betulinic acid (BA), a natural triterpenoid, exhibits strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. However, its protective role against T-2 toxin-induced neuroinflammation remains poorly understood. This study aimed to elucidate the mechanisms underlying T-2 toxin-induced neurotoxicity and evaluate the therapeutic potential of BA. Our results demonstrated that T-2 toxin (1 mg/kg/bw) exposure caused significant pathological damage in the hippocampus and cerebral cortex. T-2 toxin also indu

A new Patulin-degrading enzyme from Wickerhamomyces anomalus XL1: Identification, mechanism, and application.

Patulin (PAT), a toxic mycotoxin from Penicillium species, contaminates fruits and fruit-based products, posing serious ecological and health risks. While enzymatic degradation offers an eco-friendly remediation approach, efficient degrading enzymes remain scarce. This study identified and characterized GCV2, a key PAT-degrading enzyme from Wickerhamomyces anomalus XL1, using transcriptomics, molecular docking, and molecular dynamics simulations. Transcriptomic analysis revealed oxidative stress response, detoxification, and glutathione metabolism as core PAT degradation pathways. Among 14 can

Dietary taurine supplementation counteracts deoxynivalenol-induced liver injury via alleviating oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, apoptosis, and inflammation in piglets.

Deoxynivalenol (DON), as a widespread Fusarium mycotoxin in cereals, food products, and animal feed, is detrimental to both human and animal health. The liver is not only the primary organ responsible for DON metabolism but also the principal organ affected by DON toxicity. Taurine is well known to display various physiological and pharmacological functions due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. However, the information regarding taurine supplementation counteracting DON-induced liver injury in piglets is still unclear. In our work, twenty-four weaned piglets were subjected t

Protective Effect of Selenomethionine on T-2 Toxin-Induced Rabbit Immunotoxicity.

T-2 toxin is a trichothecene mycotoxin produced by fusarium species, which is mainly prevalent in grain and livestock feed. One of the main effects of this toxin is immunodepression. Previous studies have shown that T-2 toxin can cause damage to immune organs and impaired immune function in animals. However, selenomethionine (SeMet) as an organic selenium source can not only promote the growth and development of the body but also effectively improve the body's immune function. In this study, rabbits were exposed to 0.4-mg/kg T-2 toxin, and abnormal blood routine indicators were found in the ra

TGF-β/Smad signaling pathway plays a crucial role in patulin-induced pro-fibrotic changes in rat kidney via modulation of slug and snail expression.

Patulin (PAT) is a mycotoxin that contaminates a variety of food and foodstuffs. Earlier in vitro and in vivo findings have indicated that kidney is one of the target organs for PAT-induced toxicity. However, no study has evaluated the chronic effects of PAT exposure at environmentally relevant doses or elucidated the detailed mechanism(s) involved. Here, using in vitro and in vivo experimental approaches, we delineated the mechanism/s involved in pro-fibrotic changes in the kidney after low-dose chronic exposure to PAT. We found that non-toxic concentrations (50 nM and 100 nM) of PAT to norma

Interactive proteogenomic exploration of response to Fusarium head blight in oat varieties with different resistance.

Fusarium species are cereal pathogens that cause the Fusarium Head Blight (FHB) disease. FHB can reduce yield, cause mycotoxin accumulation in the grain and reduce germination efficiency of the harvested seeds. Understanding the biochemical interactions between the host plants and the pathogen is crucial for controlling the disease and for the development of cultivars with improved tolerance to FHB. Here, we studied morphological and proteomic differences between the susceptible oat variety Belinda and the more resistant variety Argamak using variety-specific transcriptome assemblies as refere

Inhibitory effect of human natural yeast killer toxin-like candidacidal antibodies on Pneumocystis carinii.

BACKGROUND: Human natural antibodies have been found that owe their candidacidal action to the mimicry of a yeast killer toxin produced by the yeast Pichia anomala (PaKT). Candidacidal human natural antibodies (KTAb) are elicited by and bind to a KT receptor (PaKTR) present on the cell surface of infectious PaKT-sensitive microorganisms. Because of the recognized susceptibility of Pneumocystis carinii organisms to PaKT upon the occurrence of specific PaKTR, we examined whether human natural KTAb could also bind to and inhibit P. carinii. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Immunoaffinity-purified KTAb fro

[Prevention in general practice: what is dangerous for liver cells?].

The liver is engaged in detoxication and elimination of toxic-nutritional foreign material. In addition it is of high affinity to viruses and parasites. Different influences may cause pathological reactions, which are of great consequence to the normal and even more to the previously damaged liver. In general, interactions and cumulative effects of different toxic agents occur. The increase of chronic hepatic disorders in the last years has to be noticed considering economic and social medical aspects. At the first place of agents with a toxic effect to the liver there is alcohol, followed by
