Validation of a new method for building a three-dimensional physical model of the skull and dentition.

We present a new method for replicating the skull and occlusal surface with an accurate physical model that could be used for planning orthognathic surgery. The investigation was made on 6 human skulls, and a polyvinyl splint was fabricated on the dental cast of the maxillary dentition in each case. A cone beam computed tomogram (CBCT) was taken of each skull and a three-dimensional replica produced. The distorted dentition (as a result of magnification errors and streak artefacts) was removed from the three-dimensional model and replaced by new plaster dentition that was fabricated using the

Construction faults, age, gender, and relative medical health: factors associated with complaints in complete denture patients.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Many practitioners will experience a situation, whereby a patient with newly fabricated complete dentures continues to experience difficulty in adapting to them. This can lead to a protracted period of discouraging "adjustment appointments" that may not result in the eventual resolution of the problem. Therefore it is often concluded that there is some patient factor, either age, gender, medical, or psychologic status that is hindering the success of treatment. PURPOSE: This study examined a group of 100 patients who experienced ongoing difficulties with their new comple

Quantifying 3-Dimensional Soft-to-Hard Tissue Response After Class III Orthognathic Surgery: A Hybrid Cone-Beam Computed Tomography-Stereophotogrammetric Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Accurate prediction of postoperative soft tissue behavior remains a critical challenge in Class III orthognathic surgery. However, existing estimates of soft-to-hard tissue correspondence are largely derived from 2-dimensional analyses or single-modality imaging, limiting their ability to characterize region-specific soft tissue responses after bimaxillary correction. PURPOSE: The purpose of the study was to quantify region-specific soft tissue responses to skeletal repositioning following bimaxillary surgery via a hybrid cone-beam computed tomography -3-dimensional stereophotogra

Artificial intelligence assisted quantitative analysis of fundus structural and vascular alterations reveals fundus tessellation as a robust biomarker of myopia severity.

BACKGROUND: Myopia is characterized by progressive axial elongation and structural remodeling of the posterior segment, ultimately leading to irreversible visual impairment in high myopia. However, early, noninvasive biomarkers that capture the continuum of fundus alterations across myopia severity remain insufficiently defined. Recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI) enable high-throughput quantitative analysis of fundus images, providing new opportunities for identifying imaging-based biomarkers. METHODS: This cross-sectional observational study included 539 eyes from 274 participan

Do the newly proposed realignment targets for C2 and T1 slope bridge the gap between radiographic and clinical success in corrective surgery for adult cervical deformity?

OBJECTIVE: Surgical correction of cervical deformity (CD) has been associated with superior alignment and functional outcomes. It has not yet been determined whether baseline or postoperative T1 slope (T1S) and C2 slope (C2S) correlate with health-related quality-of-life (HRQoL) metrics and radiographic complications, such as distal junctional kyphosis (DJK) and distal junctional failure (DJF). The objective of this study was to determine the impact of T1S and C2S deformity severity on HRQoL metrics and DJF development in patients with CD who underwent a cervical fusion procedure. METHODS: Al

MFDH-Net: defect detection network for multi-level feature fusion and cross-sensing decoupling head.

Industrial defect detection replaces manual visual inspection with an efficient, accurate, and reproducible automated intelligent system, directly enhancing quality management in intelligent manufacturing and providing clear engineering value for production safety and corporate competitiveness; however, their production processes often generate various defects. Detecting these defects is challenging due to issues such as high inter-class similarity among defect types, weak semantic information in complex small objects, and the presence of multi-scale defective targets, all of which compromise
