Changes in certain areas of the ocular fundus are frequently accompanied by changes in the spectral distribution of the reflected light. In many diseases of the ocular fundus, it is desirable to have an objective difinition of the color of the fundus during a particular phase of the disease. An instrument designed by Carl Zeiss, Oberkochen, West Germany, provides a satisfactory solution to the problem of measuring color on the ocular fundus. Transformational equations make it possible to convert the measurement parameters obtained by visual comparison into standardized color measurment values.

Five aphakic patients and five phakic patients were fitted with high plus Bausch & Lomb Soflenses. We evaluated corneal edema, staining, vertical striae, and corneal thickness before and after a 5-hr wearing period. The high plus lenses produced average corneal-thickness changes of 9.6% and 7.1% for the phakic and aphakic groups, respectively. Biomicroscope examination showed moderate amounts of vertical striae, epithelial staining, and corneal edema for both groups. Perforating corneal injuries often result in scarred corneas in which adequate visual rehabilitation cannot be achieved with spectacles due to irregular corneal surface. In these eyes, the presence of aphakia often adds to the problem with the coexistence of anisometropia. In this study, rigid gas permeable (RGP) contact lenses were fit in 33 post-traumatic scarred corneas of 33 patients.
