BACKGROUND: Adhesive capsulitis causes shoulder pain and limited motion. Physical therapy (PT) helps but is slow to act. This meta-analysis compares PT alone versus PT plus corticosteroid injections for pain, range of motion (ROM), and function.
METHODS: A systematic literature search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, Embase, and Google Scholar for articles published up to April 24, 2026. Eligible studies were randomized controlled trials comparing PT alone to PT combined with intra-articular corticosteroid injections in adults with adhesive capsulitis. Five studies met the inclusion criteria,

OBJECTIVE: Adhesive capsulitis is a disease characterized by a significant decrease in the active and passive range of motion(ROM) of the glenohumeral joint along with pain. Ozone therapy has demonstrated promising results in treating various diseases. This study aims to compare the efficacy of intraarticular ozone administration with steroid injection in treating adhesive capsulitis.
METHODS: Our study is a single-blind, prospective and comparative clinical trial. The study included 40 patients who were randomly assigned to one of two groups. The study group received 8 sessions of intra-arti

Adhesive capsulitis (AC) is a common chronic disorder for adult patients; however, whether a history of pre-existing shoulder diseases may affect the development of AC is still not fully understood. We aimed to investigate the incidence and prevalence of AC and to assess the association of pre-existing shoulder diseases and traumatic injuries of the shoulder with the development of AC in adults. This retrospective population-based cohort and nested case-control study used data from the National Health Institute Research Database of Taiwan. A total of 24,414 patients aged 20 years or older and w

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the usefulness of anterior capsular abnormality, thickening, and abnormal signal intensity on MRI for the diagnosis of adhesive capsulitis of the shoulder.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective study included 29 patients with adhesive capsulitis and 20 controls. Clinical criteria with significant restricted passive motion was used for the diagnosis of adhesive capsulitis. The anterior capsular thickness and signal intensity were evaluated on the thickest portion of anterior glenohumeral joint capsule, located deep to the subscapularis muscle. In addition, the previo

Polymyalgia rheumatica is an inflammatory musculoskeletal disorder of people aged 50 years or over, characterised by pain, aching and morning stiffness in the shoulder girdle and often hip girdle and neck. Marked systemic inflammation and rapid response to corticosteroid therapy are characteristic features. Giant cell arteritis is a well-known association of polymyalgia rheumatica. Recent clinical evidence and scientific results in the field have provided new challenges for rheumatologists. Besides the aspecific - although characteristic - proximal syndrome, less well recognizable and more var

INTRODUCTION: Although various techniques can be used to repair gluteal tendon tears, the long-term outcome is unclear and published studies … e reoperated successfully. In the other 56 patients, the MRI showed no signs of the initial tear or bursitis. Of the four factors (age, BMI, fatty degeneration, muscle atrophy) that were potential predictors of the outcome, only muscle atrophy had a negative impact on functional outcome (P<0.05).
CONCLUSION: Using an open double-row technique to repair gl …

BACKGROUND: The treatment of adhesive capsulitis (AC) is a well-known, complicated, and long process. Recent studies have shown that pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) lesioning of the suprascapular nerve (SSN) using a fluoroscopy- or computed tomography-guided technique can alleviate shoulder pain. However, there are no studies of PRF lesioning of the SSN in patients with AC using ultrasound-guided (UG) techniques, except for 2 case reports. In this study, we compared the effect of physical therapy alone with physical therapy and PRF lesioning of the SSN using a UG technique.
METHODS: Sixty patient

Diabetes mellitus (DM) affects a significant proportion of the patients evaluated and treated by orthopedic surgeons who specialize in sports medicine. Sports-medicine-related conditions associated with DM include tendinopathy, adhesive capsulitis of the shoulder, and articular cartilage disease. This article reviews the current literature adressing the effect of DM on surgical outcomes in sports medicine. In general, patients with DM undergo operations more frequently and experience inferior surgical outcomes compared with patients without DM. Diabetes mellitus is associated with increased ra

Clinical assessment of the patient with shoulder symptoms can usually localize the cause to one of a few syndromes, each associated with specific imaging questions. MRI is used as the primary form of investigation for recurrent dislocation, SLAP lesions and PSI, as well as articular cartilage, synovial disease, tumours and infection. Ultrasound plays the leading role in impingement, acromioclavicular disease, dynamic assessment and guided therapy. Both techniques are reported to play a role in adhesive capsulitis. In our hospital, approximately four times as many shoulder ultrasound examinatio

Manipulation under anesthesia (MUA) has been used to speed up the recovery of frozen shoulder, which is said to be a self-limiting process. We would like to elucidate the short- and long-term results of the treatment of frozen shoulders by manipulation under anesthesia and compare the results of idiopathic, post-trauma and post-surgery frozen shoulders. We applied an adjusted Constant score (Constant score after excluding the 25 points allocated for the assessment of muscle strength) to assess all patients. In our series, 47 cases with 51 frozen shoulders were collected and evaluated retrospec

The authors report the magnetic resonance (MR) appearance of bone marrow edema associated with hydroxyapatite deposition disease without cortical erosion. Hydroxyapatite deposition disease may have bone marrow edema on MR imaging without radiographic evidence of cortical erosion, mimicking the appearance of fracture, neoplasm, or infection. Awareness of this association can prevent unnecessary additional imaging evaluation or biopsy.

Overuse injuries due to repetitive motion are common in recreational and elite athletes. Some overuse injuries resolve quickly after activity modification, but others can persist, which often prompts the patient to seek medical attention. This study retrospectively reviewed outcome and compliance in the treatment of chronic overuse sports injuries. One hundred and two patients were contacted by telephone an average of 27 months following their initial visit for chronic overuse injury. A questionnaire regarding the treatment and outcome was completed. Of this group, 38 (37%) claimed to be compl

Workers' compensation claims in Ohio were evaluated as a source of surveillance data for identifying workplaces at high risk of cumulative trauma disorders (CTDs) and analyzed for their demographic and industrial characteristics. During a 5-year period (1980 to 1984), 6,849 workers' compensation claims met the case criteria for CTDs. Tenosynovitis due to continuous motion was the most frequently reported condition (58%), and the wrist was the body part most frequently affected (48%). The highest case rate was observed for female workers in the 36 to 45 age group. Incidence rates for individual

Forty-six in-patients with osteoarticular and tendon inflammatory, traumatic, degenerative and neoplastic diseases were treated with 600 mg/day of proglumetacin for variable periods ranging between 16 and 60 days. Therapeutic efficacy was considerable, with a significant improvement of all symptoms, regardless of the disease condition the patients were suffering from. Tolerance resulted more than satisfactory, as in no case it was rated less than "good".

Local corticosteroid injections are a relatively safe and effective adjunct in managing rheumatoid arthritis, other connective tissue arthropathies, and soft tissue rheumatism. Rheumatoid synovitis may be suppressed for three months or longer using relatively insoluble microcrystalline preparations. No convincing evidence exists, however, that joint erosive changes are retarded, and steroid injections should be considered ancillary to rest, physical therapy, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents, and disease modifying antirheumatic drugs. The few controlled studies in hip and knee osteoarthrit
