PURPOSE: Mandibular reconstruction represents a challenge to the oral and maxillofacial surgeon and has been revolutionized by the modern microvascular techniques. Rehabilitation using techniques such as reconstruction plates frequently produce a functional and cosmetic defect. The authors reported a case of a solitary mandibular plasmacytoma in a 53-year-old male Caucasian patient. The histological examination of the specimen was positive for a plasmacytoma with anaplastic appearance. Surgical treatment of mechanical trigeminal nerve injuries resulting in neuropathic pain varies with the type of injury (i.e., amputation or compression), presence of painful neuromas, and adjacent hard/soft tissues. Microsurgical principles that include access, preparation, and repair of the various nerve injuries are recommended for surgical treatment. The choice of surgical repair depends on the microscopic pathology and the presence or absence of adequate distal nerve tissue.

PURPOSE: In patients who have undergone mandibular resection for benign tumors involving the inferior alveolar nerve, some recovery of the neurosensory impairment in the lower lip and chin region may occur. This study investigated the extent of the residual neurosensory impairment to the lower lip and chin on the resected side.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Ten patients who underwent resection of ameloblastoma of the mandible involving the inferior alveolar nerve but not crossing the midline were evaluated by questionnaire and neurosensory testing for the extent of residual neurosensory impairment.

PURPOSE: To point out the advantages and drawbacks of high-dose rate brachytherapy in the treatment of mobile tongue cancer and indicate the clinical importance of modular lead-lined spacers when applying this technique to patients.

PATIENT: A fifty-year-old man received embolization for mandibular hemangioma two years ago, and the surgeon had placed four implants in his mandible and made a removable denture upon the implants. OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS: The purpose of this study was to analyze our experience with the composed double skin paddle fibula free flap to reconstruct large mandibulofacial defects.
STUDY DESIGN: Between 2006 and 2011, a total of 32 composed double skin paddle fibula free flap procedures were performed on 32 patients (mean age 54.4 ± 9.7 years, mean follow-up period of 3.4 ± 1.7 years).

PURPOSE: To review the literature on primary intraosseous squamous cell carcinoma (PIOSCC) associated with odontogenic cyst.
METHODS: All well-documented cases of PIOSCC published between 1938 and 2010 were collected. Only cases of PIOSCC arising from the lining of an odontogenic cyst, including the keratocystic odontogenic tumor, were selected.
