The effects of pulmonary artery infusion of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (delta 9-THC), 0.5 mg/kg, have been studied in four pregnant sheep. Cardiac output (CO) decreased from a baseline of 4.49 +/- 0.91 l/min (mean +/- s.e.m.) to 4.19 +/- 0.87 at 3 min, 3.69 +/- 0.76 at 5 min, and 3.35 +/- 0.77 at 15 min post infusion and returned to baseline by 1 h post infusion. Sheep is apparently fairly resistant against infections with Listeria monocytogenes (Lm). Grønstøl (unpublished) found that a high proportion of healthy sheep are carriers of Lm. In such animals Lm may cause clinical disease when resistance is lowered. Tick-borne fever (TBF) is known to reduce the resistance against several infections (Øverås 1972). This report describes listeric septicaemia associated with TBF.

A screening test for infectious mononucleosis is described, based on the fact that antibodies against sheep red cells remaining after absorption of the serum by papain-treated sheep red cells appear to be specific for the disease. The test appears to be more useful in diagnosis than classical absorption techniques and has the advantage of being specific while maintaining a high degree of sensitivity.

Orf virus (ORFV) is a zoonotic parapoxvirus, that primarily affects sheep and goats worldwide. It can be transmitted to humans through direct skin contact with infected animals and typically leads to self-limiting nodules or blisters at the site of inoculation, which resolve spontaneously after approximately six weeks without specific antiviral treatment.
