Association Between a 3D-Printed Simulation Model and Self-Assessed Confidence in Dental Trauma Management.

INTRODUCTION AND AIM: Simulation-based learning using 3D-printed models offers a promising approach to improve confidence in complex procedures. Dental trauma can lead to severe functional and esthetic consequences if not managed promptly and effectively. This study aimed to assess the impact of a novel 3D-printed simulation model on self-reported confidence in dental trauma management among undergraduate students. METHODS: An observational comparative study was conducted at the Department of Dentistry, Faculty of Health, Toulouse, France. Two cohorts were included: fifth-year students who tr

Conservative Management of a Primary Mandibular Second Molar With Dentoalveolar Abscess in a Four-Year-Old Child With Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia: A Case Report.

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most common pediatric hematologic malignancy and is frequently associated with significant oral complications resulting from the disease as well as the treatment-related immunosuppression. In such conditions, odontogenic infections may progress rapidly and contribute to systemic morbidity, thereby necessitating proper and carefully coordinated dental management. A four-year-old boy diagnosed with ALL, in the maintenance phase of chemotherapy, presented with pain and swelling in the lower right back tooth region for five days. Clinical and radiographic

Management of internal and external root resorption in primary teeth of a 3-year-old with myelomeningocele: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Myelomeningocele (MMC) is a severe manifestation of spina bifida. Children with MMC have motor disability, hydrocephalus, skeletal abnormalities, and mental retardation. These individuals are more susceptible to caries due to poor oral hygiene, carbohydrate-rich diet, prolonged use of sugar-containing medications and limited motor abilities. Latex allergy is an important factor to be considered during the dental rehabilitation of such patients. CASE REPORT: A 3-year-old girl visited the dental clinic with the chief complaint of multiple carious teeth and H/o neural tube defect (NT

Guided Implant Surgery to Reduce Morbidity in Von Willebrand Disease Patients: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Von Willebrand Disease is the most common inherited bleeding disorder. In the general population, 1/8000 patients are affected. Primary hemostasis (platelet adhesion) and coagulation (protection of Factor VIII) are altered. Among several bleeding symptoms, these patients suffer from excessive bleeding of oral mucosa and dental management requires a close collaboration between haematologists and oral surgeons. MATERIALS & METHODS: Guided implant surgery can be used to increase the accuracy of implant placement and to reduce the overall morbidity of this surgical procedure by usin

Combined effect of anterior malocclusion and inadequate lip coverage on dental trauma in primary teeth.

OBJECTIVES: The main objective of this study was to investigate whether the interaction of malocclusion (open bite or increased overjet) combined with inadequate lip coverage strengthens its association with traumatic dental injury (TDI) in the primary teeth of preschool children compared to the presence of malocclusion alone. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 376 children aged 36-59 months who attended the National Day of Children's Vaccination. Presence of TDI, tooth discoloration, and sinus tract were evaluated in the children. Variables associated with occl

Is mild dental invagination a risk factor for apical root resorption in orthodontic patients?

The purpose of this retrospective study was to assess if dental invagination is a risk factor for root resorption during orthodontic treatment. The sample consisted of 91 patients (32 males, 59 females) with a mean age of 13.1 years (range 9.3-32.1 years) with complete orthodontic records, including periapical radiographs of the maxillary incisors before and after treatment. Forty-nine patients had at least one maxillary incisor invaginated, whilst the remaining 42 patients were free of dental invaginations. Variables recorded for each patient included gender, age, Angle classification, extrac

In-vitro comparison of fracture resistance and failure patterns of endocrowns versus post-and-core restorations in maxillary central incisors with and without ferrule.

BACKGROUND: Restoring endodontically treated maxillary central incisors is a clinical challenge influenced by the choice of restoration technique. The amount of remaining ferrule also plays a critical role in the tooth’s structural integrity and long-term success. This study aimed to evaluate and compare the fracture resistance and failure patterns of maxillary central incisors restored with different restoration types and preparation designs. METHODS: In this in vitro study, 40 extracted human maxillary central incisors were randomly divided into four groups (n = 10), based on restoration typ

A randomized controlled trial to compare aesthetic outcomes of immediately placed implants with and without immediate provisionalization.

INTRODUCTION: There are mixed results regarding the aesthetic advantage of immediate provisionalization of dental implants. Therefore, this study aimed to compare facial mucosal level of single immediately placed implants with and without immediate provisionalization. METHODS: Single implants were immediately placed to replace a hopeless maxillary anterior or premolar tooth in 40 subjects. Each implant was randomly assigned to receive a non-occluding temporary crown or a healing abutment after implant placement. At 4 months, these implants were permanently restored and followed up for 12 mont

Adenomatoid odontogenic tumor presenting as periapical disease.

Adenomatoid odontogenic tumor commonly occurs in association with the crowns of unerupted teeth. An extrafollicular variant, radiographically in relationship to root apices, has been reported. However, clear association with the root apices at surgery has not been demonstrated. We report a case of adenomatoid odontogenic tumor in the anterior mandible in a 21-year-old woman that presented radiographically at the root apices and at surgery as a radicular cyst. We believe this represents the first reported case of adenomatoid odontogenic tumor presenting as periapical disease both clinically and

Digital workflow with intraoral scanning and CAD/CAM PMMA crowns in a non-cooperative pediatric patient with early childhood caries: a case report.

Early childhood caries can cause extensive coronal destruction in preschool children, often requiring complex rehabilitation at an age when cooperation is limited. This case report describes a behavior-adapted digital workflow used to complete full-mouth rehabilitation in a four-year-old boy with severe early childhood caries and very limited cooperation. Clinical and radiographic assessment showed advanced multi-tooth carious involvement, with marked destruction of the maxillary anterior segment. Differential diagnostic reasoning supported severe early childhood caries as the most consistent
