Japanese Dermatological Association Guidelines: Guidelines for the treatment of acne vulgaris 2017.

The Guidelines for the Treatment of Acne Vulgaris of the Japanese Dermatological Association was first published in Japanese in 2008 and rev … crobial treatments for the acute inflammatory phase up to approximately 3 months and recommend BPO, adapalene, and a fixed-dose combination gel of 0.1% adapalene and 2.5% BPO for the maintenance phase to avoid the emergence of antimicrobial-resistant Propionibacterium acnes. The 2017 GL also discuss rosacea, which requires discrimination from acne and a dif …

The potential immunomodulatory effects of topical retinoids.

New research has refined our understanding of the immunopathophysiology of acne. Various immune factors, including both innate and adaptive immune responses, have been implicated in the pathophysiology of inflammatory acne. Topical retinoids such as tretinoin, adapalene, and tazarotene, exhibit immunomodulatory effects that may help to explain their efficacy in the resolution of inflammatory lesions.

Unraveling the pharmaceutical and clinical relevance of the influence of syringic acid loaded linoleic acid transferosomes on acne.

Natural medicines are promising platforms for competent topical treatment modalities benefiting the cosmetic implementation and proffering s … ed. Clinical assessment was also performed in acne patients and compared with the marketed product (Adapalene® gel). The relevant investigations of the optimum formula indicated stable vesicles with a small-sized diameter (147.46 nm), surface charge (-26.86 mV), spherical architecture, reasonable entrapment (76.63%), considerable antioxidant activity (IC50 …

Screening chemical libraries for the development of oral treatments for bleeding disorders.

Hemophilia is a rare bleeding disorder due to factor VIII (FVIII) or FIX deficiency involved in hemophilia A (HA) or HB, respectively. Treat … ere HA plasma. We screened 3 chemical collections totaling > 2300 chemical compounds; we identified adapalene, a commercialized antiacneic compound (Differin), which is strongly hydrophobic. To design a drug that could be orally administered, we developed a series of chemical analogs of adapalene, and 3 of them, with similar procoagulant activities in FVIII …

Palladium-Catalyzed Decarbonylative Cyanation of Carboxylic Acids with TMSCN.

The direct decarbonylative cyanation of benzoic acids with TMSCN was achieved through palladium catalysis. By this strategy, a wide range of nitriles including those with functional groups was synthesized in good to high yields. Moreover, this reaction applied to modifying bioactive molecules such as adapalene, probenecid, telmisartan, and 3-methylflavone-8-carboxylic acid. These results demonstrate that this new reaction has potential synthetic value in organic synthesis.

Clinical inquiries. What is the best treatment for mild to moderate acne?

For mild comedonal acne, monotherapy with topical retinoids is the treatment of choice (strength of recommendation [SOR]: A). For moderate comedonal and mild to moderate papulopustular acne, combination therapy with either benzoyl peroxide or topical retinoids (adapalene [Differin], tazarotene [Tazorac], tretinoin [Retin-A]) plus topical antibiotics (erythromycin or clindamycin) is proven most effective (SOR: A). Six to 8 weeks should be allowed for most treatments to work before altering the regimen (SOR: A).

Chemical peeling with 35% glycolic acid for the treatment of disseminated facial verruca plana: A randomized, split-face, evaluator-blinded trial.

Disseminated facial verruca plana is a chronic disorder that causes significant psychological distress. However, safe and effective treatment is lacking. This study aimed to explore the efficacy and safety of 35% glycolic acid (GA) for the treatment of disseminated facial verruca plana. A split-face clinical trial was conducted to explore the efficacy and safety of using chemical peeling with 35% GA for the treatment of disseminated facial verruca plana. One side of the face was applied with 35% GA once every fortnight for a total of three times. Adapalene gel was applied every night to the ot…

Efficacy of ceramides and niacinamide-containing moisturizer versus hydrophilic cream in combination with topical anti-acne treatment in mild to moderate acne vulgaris: A split face, double-blinded, randomized controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: Topical therapy is the mainstay treatment of acne, and topical retinoids such as tretinoin, tazarotene, and adapalene are recommended as the first-line therapy for mild to moderate acne. However, the cutaneous irritations may occur, and the dermocosmetics are recommended to prevent side effects of anti-acne drugs and adhere to treatment. Thus, this study aims to compare the efficacy and tolerability of ceramides and niacinamide-containing moisturizer (CCM) versus hydrophilic cream in combination with topical anti-acne treatment in mild to moderate acne vulgaris. METHODS: This wa…

Unilateral Linear Lichen Planus Pigmentosus Responding to Isotretinoin: A Case Report.

Lichen planus pigmentosus (LPP) is a rare variant of lichen planus. Due to the scarce number of patients diagnosed with LPP, there are no treatment guidelines. Multiple topical and oral agents are utilized in LPP with varying degrees of response. Isotretinoin has only been investigated in a case report and a single prospective pilot study for managing LPP. Herein, we report the efficacy, safety, and moderate improvement of LPP patients on isotretinoin 20 mg (0.25 mg/kg), topical adapalene gel, 4% hydroquinone cream, and topical sunscreen.
