The current view of whisker movement is that approximately 25 whiskers on each side of the face move in synchrony. To determine whether whiskers are constrained to move together, we trained rats to use two whiskers on the same side of the face in simple behavioral tasks and videotaped the whiskers during the task. PURPOSE: To report a case of progressive indocyanine green (ICG) toxicity that occurred after pars plana vitrectomy for an epiretinal membrane.

A central function of the brain is to plan, predict, and imagine the effect of movement in a dynamically changing environment. Here we show that in mice head-fixed in a plus-maze, floating on air, and trained to pick lanes based on visual stimuli, the asymmetric movement, and position of whiskers on the two sides of the face signals whether the animal is moving, turning, expecting reward, or licking. OBJECTIVE: This study investigated the effects of bolus consistency on pharyngeal volume during swallowing using three-dimensional kinematic analysis.
METHODS: Eight subjects (2 males and 6 females, mean ± SD 44 ± 10 years old) underwent a 320-row area detector scan during swallows of 10 mL of honey-thick liquid and thin liquid. Critical event timing (hyoid, soft palate, UES) and volume of pharyngeal cavity and bolus were measured and compared between two swallows.
RESULTS: The pharynx is almost completely obliterated by pharyngeal constriction against the tongue base for both consistencies.

During January--March 2007, the Warren County Combined Health District (WCCHD) received 665 reports of respiratory and eye irritation from patrons and lifeguards at a hotel indoor waterpark resort in Ohio. An experimental investigation on sulfur dioxide removal in a pilot-scale spray dryer from the flue gas generated by combustion of low-sulfur (S) heavy oil is reported. A limewater slurry was sprayed through an ultrasonic two-fluid atomizer in the spray-dry chamber, and the spent sorbent was collected downstream in a pulse-jet baghouse together with fly ash. The oxidation of SO2 is commonly regarded as a major driver for new particle formation (NPF) in the atmosphere. In this study, we explored the connection between measured mixing ratio of SO2 and observed long-term (duration>3 hr) and short-term (duration<1.5 hr) NPF events at a semi-urban site in Toronto.
