OBJECTIVES: To assess the impact of antifibrinolytics in children with life-threatening hemorrhage.
DESIGN: Secondary analysis of the MAssive Transfusion epidemiology and outcomes In Children study dataset, a prospective observational study of children with life-threatening bleeding events.
SETTING: Twenty-four children's hospitals in the United States, Canada, and Italy.
PATIENTS: Children 0-17 years old who received greater than 40 mL/kg of total blood products over 6 hours or were transfused under activation of massive transfusion protocol.

A high content of non-functioning C1 esterase inhibitor was found in serum and plasma from a patient with angioneurotic oedema. By means of DEAE-Sephadex A-50 column chromatography, Agkistrodon rhodostoma (Malayan pit viper) snake venom was separated into eleven fractions. The basic proteinase inhibitor from bovine organs, aprotinin, was first identified in 1930 and its effect on enzyme and other biological systems has since been extensively studied. Aprotinin can only be administered intravenously and has a half-life of about 2 hours. Klippel-Trenaunay-Weber syndrome (KTWS) is a rare, congenital disorder characterized by vascular nevus formation, deep venous thrombosis, varicosities, and hypertrophy of affected tissues. We reviewed the medical records of 175 patients who were admitted between 1977 and 1984 with a diagnosis of traumatic hyphema to define the incidence of operative intervention for the treatment of complications related to rebleeding.
