Cochlear amplification of basilar membrane traveling waves is thought to occur between a tone's characteristic frequency (CF) place and within one octave basal of the CF. We report a case of solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) in the cerebral convexity, and present characteristic radiological and surgical findings to determine its origin. The patient was a 59-year-old man with mental dullness and mild gait disturbance. Neural auditory responses in the guinea pig, monitored by surface electrodes (brain stem potentials and frequency-following responses) and by electrodes at the round window, were analyzed for evidence of frequency dependence in the range from 500 Hz to 15 kHz.
