How to build a framework to establish a patient research partner network in rheumatology research: a report of a 2-year implementation project.

BACKGROUND: Patient research partners (PRPs) are people living with a relevant disease who actively contribute to research. Their contribution is beneficial for any research project. Although the inclusion of PRPs in rheumatology research is increasingly recommended, its practical implementation, particularly in translational research, remains limited . Enhancing PRP engagement requires a clear understanding of the necessary steps. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to show steps to achieve successful collaboration between PRPs and researchers in clinical and transitional research in rheumatology. M

Translating research into practice-implementation recommendations for pediatric rheumatology; Proceedings of the childhood arthritis and rheumatology research alliance 2020 implementation science retreat.

The translation of research findings into clinical practice is challenging, especially fields like in pediatric rheumatology, where the evidence base is limited, there are few clinical trials, and the conditions are rare and heterogeneous. Implementation science methodologies have been shown to reduce the research- to- practice gap in other clinical settings may have similar utility in pediatric rheumatology. This paper describes the key discussion points from the inaugural Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance Implementation Science retreat held in February 2020. The aim of t

Mapping two decades of nanomaterials research in glioblastoma: trends, networks, and translational insights.

Glioblastoma (GBM) is an extremely aggressive and lethal brain tumor marked by extensive invasiveness. Although nanomaterials have garnered increasing attention in GBM research, a comprehensive bibliometric evaluation remains lacking. Here, we perform a bibliometric analysis to map the scientific landscape of nanomaterials in GBM, identifying prevailing research hotspots and emerging directions. A total of 5241 publications on nanomaterials in GBM were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection for bibliometric analysis. VOSviewer and CiteSpace were employed to visualize research output

Priorities in applied research to ensure programmatic success in the global elimination of canine rabies.

The elimination of human rabies mediated by dogs is attainable in concept, based upon current sensitive and specific diagnostic methods, existing safe and effective human and veterinary vaccines and a sound virological, pathological and epidemiological understanding of the disease. Globally, all developed countries achieved this goal. Regionally, major progress occurred throughout the Americas. However, less advancement is evident in Africa and Asia. Our objective was to concentrate upon those salient improvements to extant tools and methods over the next five years which could assist and simp

What are set and setting: Reducing vagueness to improve research and clinical practice.

Research on the therapeutic potential of psychedelics has surged, prompting a re-examination of the role of set and setting in psychedelic-assisted therapy. Yet, these concepts are vague and typically defined over inclusively. We believe that set and setting research should be methodologically reductionist, focusing on specific components rather than set and setting as such. To that end, we propose the mechanism-first approach, which begins with specific, paradigmatic set and setting components, such as "openness to the psychedelic experience" or calming lighting and music. It seeks to underst

The full spectrum of ethical issues in dementia research: findings of a systematic qualitative review.

BACKGROUND: When including participants with dementia in research, various ethical issues arise. At present, there are only a few existing d … nciples from a pre-existing framework on biomedical ethics (Emanuel et al. An Ethical Framework for Biomedical Research. in The Oxford textbook of clinical research ethics, Oxford University Press, Oxford, 2008). Consequently, subcategories were created and further categorized into dementia stages and study phases. CONCLUSIONS: The systematically derived matrix help …

Scoping review of priority setting of research topics for musculoskeletal conditions.

OBJECTIVE: Describe research methods used in priority-setting exercises for musculoskeletal conditions and synthesise the priorities identified. DESIGN: Scoping review. SETTING AND POPULATION: Studies that elicited the research priorities of patients/consumers, clinicians, researchers, policy-makers and/or funders for any musculoskeletal condition were included. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: We searched MEDLINE and EMBASE from inception to November 2017 and the James Lind Alliance top 10 priorities, Cochrane Priority Setting Methods Group, and Cochrane Musculoskeletal and Back Groups review priorit

[Research Ethics on Handling of Clinical Samples].

Medical research that has utilized the residual parts of clinical samples after routine laboratory examination has yielded numerous findings and contributed to the progress in clinical medicine as well as the detailed elucidation of pathological states of various diseases. However, ethics guidelines on human medical research have recently been established by the Japanese Government, and the Personal Information Protection Law has now imposed stricter rules. Therefore, the enactment of a new guideline became necessary for the secondary utilization of the residual parts of clinical samples. Basi

[The returns to society from medical research].

Medical research can benefit society in many ways and through a multiplicity of inter-connected pathways. Some of these pathways involve the … ments sometimes cite research findings, although not often enough. Thus the socioeconomic effect of biomedical research can be evaluated in new ways that may provide a fairer view of its utility and impact than do conventional methods of citation analysis.
