A series of novel isatin derivatives were synthesised by incorporating phenyl, biphenyl, naphthyl and indolyl moieties into the N-1 position and screened in vitro against SARS-CoV-2 3CLpro, respectively. These isatin compounds with halogen substitution at the isatin ring and trifluoromethylbenzyl substitution at N-1 position were strong inhibitors of SARS-CoV-2 3CLpro. Furthermore, introduction of electron withdrawing groups at the C-5 and C-7 of isatin ring, such as bromo group, might be more favourable for the inhibition activity. The investigations of organochlorine compounds in breast milk from women living in the Stockholm region started in 1967. The present study summarises the investigations of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), naphthalenes (PCNs), dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs), dibenzofurans (PCDFs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and pesticides (DDT, DDE, hexachlorobenzene, dieldrin) as well as methylsulfonyl metabolites of PCBs and DDE in human milk sampled during different periods up to 1997. During the course of 20-30 yr the levels of organochlorine compounds in human milk have decreased to various extent.

Menichlopholan, biphenyl compound, in a single dose of 2 mg/kg body weight, gave a 73%-90% cure rate in the treatment of pulmonary infections due to Paragonimus uterobilateralis at two centers in Nigeria. Ninety-five patients were followed up for 4 months, and 58 for 1 year. Side effects of the drug included sweating and body pains, but there was no significnat biochemical or hematological evidence of damage to the internal organs. The advantages of single dose therapy are likely to make menichlopholan the treatment of choice for paragonimiasis in Africa, and probably elsewhere.
