Lung cyst caused by centrally located bronchogenic carcinoma.

A 45-year-old smoker was referred for evaluation of recent onset streaky hemoptysis and a large cystic lesion in the left lower lobe (LLL). Presence of air trapping in LLL was observed on computed tomography scan of thorax. Prior to completion of diagnostic evaluation, the patient was lost to follow up. On return after a two-month gap, 'disappearance' of the cyst was observed along with complete collapse of LLL. A fibreoptic bronchoscopy revealed presence of a tumor completely occluding the LLL main bronchus and biopsy confirmed presence of squamous cell carcinoma of lung. The temporal clinico

Minimally invasive management of lesser sac bronchogenic cyst.

Bronchogenic cysts rarely develop in the abdomen they typically reside in the mediastinum. We present a unique case of a bronchogenic cyst within the lesser sac. Endoscopic ultrasound proved to be a critical diagnostic tool, and the patient underwent a laparoscopic resection of the lesion.

Treatment of bronchogenic cyst surgical versus transbronchial drainage?

Bronchogenic cysts are congenital abnormalities of the bronchial tree and present with a wide range of clinical and radiologic manifestations. Asymptomatic bronchogenic cysts may become symptomatic and produce complications with passage of time. Therefore, removal of the cyst is advised. We present a case that was diagnosed as asymptomatic bronchogenic cyst. Therapeutic drainage of cystic fluid through a bronchoscope was attempted, which led to rupture of the cyst and leakage of cystic fluid into the mediastinum and pleural space, leading to complications. Finally, thoracotomy was performed, a…

Cerebral air embolism caused by a bronchogenic cyst.

An unusual case is presented of a tourist who developed fatal cerebral air embolism, pneumomediastinum and pneumopericardium while ascending from low altitude to Europe's highest railway station. Presumably the air embolism originated from rupture of the unsuspected bronchogenic cyst as a result of pressure changes during the ascent. Cerebral air embolism has been observed during surgery, in scuba diving accidents, submarine escapes and less frequently during exposure to very high altitude. People with known bronchogenic cysts should be informed about the risk of cerebral air embolism and surg…

Robotic-assisted resection of an intrapericardial bronchogenic cyst.

The advantages of robotic-assisted surgery have been well described and include improved three-dimensional visualization, increased precision of dissection, and the absence of tremor. These characteristics are particularly useful in the mediastinal dissection of major vascular structures. We present a case of an intrapericardial bronchogenic cyst resected with robotic assistance. Bronchogenic cysts are congenital thoracic anomalies that typically occur in the mediastinum or lung parenchyma, and occasionally within the pericardium. Historically a sternotomy was required for complete resection, …

Iniencephaly with mediastinal bronchogenic cyst: A case report.

OBJECTIVE: Iniencephaly is a rare neural tube defectwith consisting of a defect in the occipital bone, spina bifida of many vertebrae, and retroflexion of the head on the spine. In majorty of cases it is a le-\thal condition. METHODS: We present the first case of iniencephalywith large bronchogenic cyst diagnosed prenatally. RESULTS: At 19 week's gestation showed that fetalcardiac activity was present with normal placentaand amniotic fluid, fetus had occipital bone defect, anencephaly, retroflexion of the head, abnormally short cervicothoracic spine and posterior mediastinal unilocular anecho…

[Bronchogenic cyst with a high computed tomography number].

A 55-year-old man was diagnosed as having colon cancer. During the preoperative survey for metastasis, chest computed tomography (CT) revealed a well-defined tumor (33 mm) with a high CT value in the left hilum. We performed thoracoscopic resection for diagnosis and treatment. The contents of the lesion were yellowish, viscid, and creamy. Pathological examination revealed that the tumor was a bronchogenic cyst. This case is reported with a review of the literature.

Thoracic myelopathy secondary to intradural extramedullary bronchogenic cyst.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE: To report a case of thoracic myelopathy secondary to intradural extramedullary bronchogenic cyst. STUDY DESIGN: Case report. METHODS/FINDINGS: A 20-year-old man presented to the emergency department with increasing back pain and lower-extremity weakness. Magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated a cystic lesion at the T4 level with mass effect on the spinal cord. RESULTS: The lesion was resected, and histopathologic evaluation showed a cyst lined by respiratory-type epithelium consistent with a bronchogenic cyst. CONCLUSIONS: Intradural extramedullary bronchogenic cysts…

Subdiaphragmatic bronchogenic cyst masquerading as an "adrenal incidentaloma".

A subdiaphragmatic, retroperitoneal bronchogenic cyst arising from the stomach is reported in a patient who was referred for evaluation of what was thought to be an adrenal tumor. To our knowledge, less than 20 cases of retroperitoneal bronchogenic cyst have been reported in the English literature. A bronchogenic cyst may be indistinguishable from an adrenal tumor and, although rare, should be considered in the differential diagnosis of a retroperitoneal mass.

Bronchogenic cyst infected by Salmonella enteritidis followed gastroenteritis.

Congenital bronchogenic cysts of the lung and mediastinum develop from the ventral foregut during embryogenesis. Bronchogenic cysts are seldom seen in the adults and most are thought to be asymptomatic and free of complications unless they become infected or are large enough to cause pressure on contiguous vital structures such as the tracheal carina, the lung or the esophagus. We present the unique case of a 24-year-old man who developed respiratory symptoms after Salmonella enteritidis infected bronchogenic cyst following Salmonella gastroenteritis.

Isolated retroperitoneal intradiaphragmatic bronchogenic cyst. A case report.

Isolated retroperitoneal bronchogenic cysts are extremely rare. We report a case which was intradiaphragmatic intimately associated with the musculature of the left crus diaphragmatic and unconnected with any other structures. Ultrasound and computed tomography findings were consistent with a pancreatic or an adrenal mass. Pathology confirmed a bronchogenic cyst. The outcome is favourable and the overall prognosis is good.

Tracheal bronchogenic cyst: a rare cause of stridor.

A 6-month-old child with stridor from 3 months of age presented with interim worsening following a respiratory infection. Airway evaluation revealed a smooth, polypoidal mass herniating in and out of the airway with each respiratory cycle, from the anterior surface of the upper trachea. Computerized tomography showed a non-enhancing cystic mass in anterior neck protruding into the upper trachea through an anterior tracheal defect. Surgical resection was performed and pathological examination revealed a bronchogenic cyst. Tracheal bronchogenic cyst is a rare cause of stridor and can occur anywh…
