Study of C-reactive Protein Levels in Hypertensive Disorders of Pregnancy.

Introduction Globally, one of the main causes of maternal and perinatal deaths is hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP). Preeclampsia is a pregnancy-specific syndrome characterized by high blood pressure and proteinuria after 20-week gestation. Women who develop preeclampsia are at increased risk for the development of many systemic complications. Materials and methods A cross-sectional study was conducted in the Department of Biochemistry, SHKM, Nuh, Haryana in collaboration with the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology. 200 study subjects; Group 1: cases - 100 HDP, Group 2: controls - 1

C-Reactive Protein Level as a Novel Serum Biomarker in Sarcopenia.

BACKGROUND: The role of C-reactive protein (CRP), an inflammatory marker, in the development of sarcopenia remains uncertain. METHODS: This cross-sectional research involved the enrollment of 207 patients, classified into two groups: 74 patients with sarcopenia and 133 patients without sarcopenia. Clinical data of the participants, including hand grip strength, walking speed, appendicular lean mass (ALM), and calf circumference, were collected and recorded. We evaluated the extent to which CRP levels are associated with the risk of sarcopenia using both univariate and multivariate logistic re

C-Reactive Protein: An Important Inflammatory Marker of Coronary Atherosclerotic Disease.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the most common cause of death worldwide, with coronary atherosclerotic heart disease (CHD) accounting for the majority of events. Evidence demonstrates that inflammation plays a vital role in the development of CHD. The association between C-reactive protein (CRP), a representative inflammatory biomarker, and atherosclerosis (AS), CHD, and inflammation has attracted attention. Therefore, we conducted an extensive search on PubMed using the aforementioned terms as search criteria and identified a total of 1246 articles published from January 2000 to April 2024.

Significance of C-reactive protein in patients with chronic myelomonocytic leukemia.

In a retrospective study, we analyzed the prevalence of elevated C‑reactive protein (CRP) serum levels in 148 patients with chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML), their potential prognostic impact, and potential correlations with laboratory features. Normal, up to 10-fold, and more than 10-fold elevated CRP levels were found in 18%, 59%, and 23% of CMML patients, respectively. Using the CRP cutoff value of 10 mg/L of the widely used Glasgow score, high CRP values were associated with inferior survival (13 vs. 39 months, p = 0.014), which retained prognostic significance in multivariate analys

C-reactive protein and diabetic foot ulcer infections: A meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Accurate identification of diabetic foot ulcer infection (IDFU) through inflammatory markers is still a challenge in clinical practice. OBJECTIVES: This meta-analysis aims to investigates whether there is a significant indigenous association between CRP level and diabetic foot ulcer infection. METHODS: The studies on the diagnosis of IDFU by inflammatory marker C-reactive protein published before November 2021 in PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane Library were searched. Since the included seven studies were cohort studies and cross-sectional studies, the quality evaluat

C-reactive protein and implications in rheumatoid arthritis and associated comorbidities.

C-reactive protein (CRP) is routinely assessed as a marker of systemic inflammation in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). However, it is also an immune regulator that plays an important role in inflammatory pathways associated with RA and promotes atherogenic effects. Comorbidities linked to systemic inflammation are common in RA, and CRP has been associated with the risk for cardiovascular disease, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, pulmonary diseases, and depression. The relationship between systemic inflammation, CRP, and comorbidities in RA is complex, and it is challenging to determine how changing CR

C-reactive protein for diagnosing late-onset infection in newborn infants.

BACKGROUND: Late-onset infection is the most common serious complication associated with hospital care for newborn infants. Because confirming the diagnosis by microbiological culture typically takes 24 to 48 hours, the serum level of the inflammatory marker C-reactive protein (CRP) measured as part of the initial investigation is used as an adjunctive rapid test to guide management in infants with suspected late-onset infection. OBJECTIVES: To determine the diagnostic accuracy of serum CRP measurement in detecting late-onset infection in newborn infants. SEARCH METHODS: We searched electron

C-reactive protein and other markers of inflammation in hemodialysis patients.

Hemodialysis patients are at greater risk of cardiovascular disease. Higher than expected cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in this population has been attributed to dislipidemia as well as inflammation. The causes of inflammation in hemodialysis patients are multifactorial. Several markers were used for the detection of inflammatory reaction in patients with chronic renal disease. These markers can be used for the prediction of future cardiovascular events. Among the several parameters of inflammatory markers, serum, CRP is well known and its advantages for the detection of inflammation

Familial aggregation of circulating C-reactive protein in polycystic ovary syndrome.

STUDY QUESTION: What is the heritability of C-reactive protein (CRP) levels in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and their first-degree relatives? SUMMARY ANSWER: Women with PCOS and their siblings are more likely to have elevated CRP levels when both of their parents have elevated CRP. This PCOS family-based study indicates that CRP levels are likely a heritable trait. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: Previous studies have established that an elevated blood level of CRP is variably present in women with PCOS, and may be present independent of metabolic status. Particulate air pollution exposure and C-reactive protein during early pregnancy.

BACKGROUND: It is not well understood how air pollution leads to adverse pregnancy outcomes. One pathway may be through C-reactive protein, a biomarker of systemic inflammation that has been reported to increase the risk of preterm delivery. We examined whether air pollution influences serum concentrations of C-reactive protein in early pregnancy. METHODS: We studied 1696 pregnant women in Allegheny County, PA, from 1997 through 2001. C-reactive protein concentrations were assayed in blood collected before the 22nd week of gestation. We estimated levels of particles of less than 10 μm (PM10)
