Carney triad is a rare syndrome characterized by the synchronous or metachronous occurrence of gastric gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs), pulmonary chondromas, and extra-adrenal paragangliomas. We report a case of a 40-year-old woman with a suspected Carney triad who underwent 68 Ga-DOTATOC PET/CT for comprehensive disease characterization. Imaging revealed multiple well-circumscribed pulmonary masses with chondroid matrix calcifications and minimal tracer uptake, consistent with pulmonary chondromas. An intensely DOTATOC-avid nodular soft-tissue lesion was identified between the left at

Carney triad is a usually sporadic association of pulmonary chondroma, gastrointestinal stromal tumours, and paraganglioma. The majority of patients have two of these tumours, the gastric and pulmonary tumours being the most common combination. Carney Stratakis syndrome is an association of familial paraganglioma and gastric stromal sarcoma and it is considered to be a distinct condition from Carney triad as it is dominantly inherited and not associated with pulmonary chondroma. We report two unrelated patients each with two components of Carney triad. A pathological mutation in succinate dehy

Synovial chondromatosis (SC) is a benign proliferative process of synovial tissue creating multiple cartilaginous nodules in joints. It most commonly occurs in the large joints of the knee, hip, and shoulder, uncommonly in the small joints of the hand and foot, and only rarely in the tenosynovial membrane of tendon sheath, termed tenosynovial chondromatosis (TC). Unlike SC, TC predisposes to the foot or hand. The rarity and unfamiliarity of imagers with TC, as well as the variability of its histologic features often lead to an erroneous diagnosis of extraskeletal chondroma or even chondrosarco

Cartilaginous tumors of soft tissue are uncommon, with benign chondromas of soft parts greatly outnumbering rare soft-tissue chondrosarcomas. Over the past several years, we have seen in consultation a distinctive, benign-appearing chondroid soft-tissue lesion of the plantar foot that differs in a number of respects from chondroma of soft parts. Herein we report our experience with this distinctive lesion. A retrospective review of all cases from the foot in our soft-tissue consultation and institutional surgical pathology archives identified 9 similar cases, most often previously coded as 'fi

A rare case of Maffucci's syndrome associated with astrocytoma at the right frontal lobe and intracranial chondroma is reported in detail with a review of literature. A 24-year-old male who had diagnosed as multiple chondroma at the age of 14 years old was admitted to the hospital with complaint of double vision. Neurological examination revealed no abnormality except for the left abducens palsy. Multiple subcutaneous blue nodules in the left hand was carried for biopsy as cavernous hemangioma. Craniograph showed expansive radiolucent area in the parasellar region. CT scan demonstrated a round

A series of clinical and pathological studies were performed on 74 cartilaginous bone tumors including osteochondromas, multiple cartilaginous exostoses, chondromas, chondromatoses, benign chondroblastomas and chondrosarcomas. Resection was adequate for the osteochondromas, and no recurrence was observed. Out of 14 multiple cartilaginous exostoses, three, all in flat bones showed malignant change. The predominant sites of chondroma were the finger and toe bones, and curettage and bone graft was adequate treatment. Neither recurrence nor malignant change was observed. Two cases of chondromatosi

Bronchial chondromas are very rare pulmonary benign tumors. Despite their rarity, clinicians should be aware of the possibility of endobronchial tumors in patients with unexplained respiratory symptoms. Treatment modalities for the complete excision of the tumor should be initiated to prevent further complications based on the individual tumor situation.

BACKGROUND: Tumors of the cricoid cartilage are rare, with chondroma and chondrosarcoma being the most common histologic types. Clinical presentation is often insidious and symptoms usually appear when the lesion enlarges significantly or invades surrounding structures. Differentiating benign chondroma from low-grade chondrosarcoma remains challenging due to overlapping imaging findings and nonspecific clinical presentation. Histopathological examination following biopsy remains the gold standard for definitive diagnosis.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present the case of a middle-aged male patient wi

"Calcified chondroid mesenchymal neoplasm (CCMN)" is a recently proposed term for tumors with hypercellular chondroid histology and fusion genes. However, its impact on the present classification framework has not been extensively investigated. In this study, we analyzed 20 tumors with histology that would fit with that reported as "CCMN." With the combined use of RNA sequencing and fluorescence in situ hybridization, 15 tumors were found to have gene fusions, including FN1::FGFR2 (n = 4), FN1::TEK (n = 1), FN1::MERTK (n = 1), PDGFRA::USP8 (n = 2), FN1 rearrangements with undetermined non-FGFR

Ollier's disease is characterized by the hamartomatous proliferation of cartilage cells, producing masses termed chondromas. A patient presented with Ollier's disease which was found to be associated with diffuse gliomas. Investigating this disease is crucial as there is a high risk of sarcomatous transformation of the skeletal lesions as well as an increased risk of developing extra-osseous malignancies.

INTRODUCTION: The tissues of the laryngeal region only rarely harbor primary cartilaginous lesions, and squamous cell carcinoma remains the most frequently encountered malignant tumor in this area.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We reviewed the salient histological features of cartilaginous laryngeal lesions to provide differential diagnostics and guidelines for distinguishing the benign from the malignant ones.
RESULTS: Cartilaginous neoplasms of the larynx include chondroma and chondrosarcoma. Among the overarching group of all forms of laryngeal sarcoma, chondrosarcoma forms the most common entit

Two cases of chondroma of the larynx are presented: After the first laryngofissure and excision both tumours recurred so that several operations became necessary. A transformation from chondroma to chondrosarcoma was observed based on repeated histological examinations. In the first patient pulmonary metastases and a recurrence at the tracheostomy appeared 11 years after presentation and 41/2 years after laryngectomy. In the other female patient no obvious signs of the neoplasm are present 9 years after presentation, and 4 months after the last operation for recurrence, but the prognosis remai

A case of intracranial chondrosarcoma is reported. Its diagnosis can be suspected through the findings of a paraselar avascular tumor, sometimes with in specific calcifications, visualized as a isodense and contrast-enhancing mass by computed tomography, as observed in the case. Differential diagnosis may be difficult with chondromas and meningiomas. Surgical resection is the treatment of choice, with good results.

Benign cartilage lesions discussed in this article include osteochondroma (solitary, epiphyseal, and multiple), chondroblastoma, periosteal chondroma, and chondromyxoid fibroma. These lesions often demonstrate imaging appearances strongly suggesting the above diagnosis, particularly the "ring and arc" mineralization characteristic of cartilage lesions, which reflects their underlying pathology. This article emphasizes the imaging spectrum of these lesions with a multimodality approach.

The CT findings in six patients with benign laryngeal expansions are reported. Although CT in laryngeal carcinomas has been extensively dealt with in the literature, little mention has been made of benign conditions. The CT appearances of expansions due to chondroma, tuberculosis, hypertrophic lingual tonsilla, fluid-filled laryngocele, aberrant thyroid adenoma, and chronic granulomatous inflammation are described.

The authors detail cytological picture of some benign tumors and pseudotumors encountered in otorhinolaryngological practice: oncocytoma, angioma, lipoma, soft fibroma, mixoma, paraganglioma, chondroma, angiogranuloma, cholesteatoma of the ear, protein pseudotumors (early-stage fibrinoid-hyaline nodes), polyps of the nose and ear, sarcoidosis. Cytological techniques made it possible to establish accurate diagnosis in 90% and 82% of cases with benign tumors and pseudotumors, respectively.

OBJECTIVE: To report our experience with the Extended endoscopic endonasal approach (EEEA) for clival and paraclival tumors.
DESIGN: Retrospective analysis of a consecutive series of patients.
RESULTS: Eleven patients were considered: 3 chordomas, 3 meningiomas, 3 metastatic lesions, one chondroma and one chondrosarcoma. Gross total resection (GTR) was achieved in all chordomas and in chondromas with patients free of disease at the last follow-up. The chondrosarcoma was first operated on using a transfacial approach and endoscopy was performed for local progression with subtotal resection. T

In 1977, Carney et al. first described an association of gastric epithelioid leiomyosarcoma or gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST), pulmonary chondroma, and extra-adrenal paraganglioma. This previously unrecognized disorder came to be known as Carney's triad. We describe a case of a 27-year-old female with metastatic GIST, diagnosed with Carney's triad following pulmonary wedge resection, and highlight the surgical implication of this rare disease association.
