Case Report: Coinfection of influenza A and Chlamydia psittaci pneumonia.

The coinfection of influenza A and Chlamydia psittaci pneumoniae is rarely described in China. However, the clinical features of these diseases pose a significant diagnostic challenge. Therefore, it is necessary to report and review such a potentially fatal case. We report an 89-year-old male patient requiring admission to the intensive care unit with acute hypoxemic respiratory failure, shock and MODS. He presented with fever, fatigue, anorexia and dyspnea. The patient exhibited severe hypoxemia, shock, hepatic dysfunction (elevated liver enzymes and serum bilirubin), acute kidney injury and …

Adaptive modeling of HIV-TB coinfection dynamics and intervention optimization.

BACKGROUND: The syndemic of HIV and tuberculosis (TB) co-infection remains a critical global health challenge, particularly in resource-limited settings where conventional epidemiological models fail to capture the complex evolutionary dynamics between pathogens, hosts, and interventions. Current approaches lack adaptive mechanisms to account for temporal changes in transmission parameters and quality of life (QoL) impacts, creating an urgent need for innovative modeling frameworks. METHODS: This study focuses on the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan, a region with moderate HIV prevalen

Vertical Intrauterine Bovine and Ovine Papillomavirus Coinfection in Pregnant Cows.

There is very little information available about transplacental infections by the papillomavirus in ruminants. However, recent evidence has emerged of the first report of vertical infections of bovine papillomavirus (BPV) in fetuses from naturally infected, pregnant cows. This study reports the coinfection of BPV and ovine papillomavirus (OaPV) in bovine fetuses from infected pregnant cows suffering from bladder tumors caused by simultaneous, persistent viral infections. Some molecular mechanisms involving the binary complex composed of Eras and platelet-derived growth factor β receptor (PDGFβ…

Annular secondary syphilis with HIV coinfection that resembles other dermatoses.

Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection with manifestations that can mimic other diseases, leading to misdiagnosis. Annular syphilis is a rare atypical secondary syphilitic lesion that seldomly involves the face. Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) coinfection can increasingly lead to atypical manifestations of syphilis and complicate the diagnosis. Herein, we describe a 29-year-old man with a diagnosis of annular secondary syphilis and HIV coinfection. He had clinical manifestations of annular erythematous papules and plaques with white scales at the edges, distributed and scattered on th…

Parinaud's oculoglandular syndrome: Coinfection by Bartonella henselae and Sporothrix brasiliensis.

A 26-year-old woman presented an eyelid lesion, after being scratched by a cat that had a similar skin lesion. It evolved into a cervical lymph node enlargement. With a hypothesis of Parinaud´s oculoglandular syndrome (POS) due to cat scratch disease (CSD), doxycycline was prescribed. After two weeks of treatment without improvement, a biopsy and blood sample were obtained. Itraconazole was prescribed and the skin lesion improved, but not the lymph node enlargement. A Sporothrix schenckii complex was isolated from the skin sample. Also, a specie-specific polymerase chain reaction detected Bart

Epidemiologic Situation of HIV and Monkeypox Coinfection: A Systematic Review.

The most recent monkeypox (Mpox) outbreak is mostly affecting men who have sex with men (MSM) who participate in high-risk sexual behaviors, which is typically the case among human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) carriers, according to clinical and epidemiological statistics. The objective of this research is to determine the epidemiological situation of HIV and smallpox co-infection. Until 1 October 2022, a thorough evaluation of the literature was conducted utilizing the databases PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Web of Science. Studies were evaluated based on the criteria for selection. Fifty-three

Case Report: "Area of Focus" Atypical Trichinellosis and Fascioliasis Coinfection.

Parasitic co-infection is commonly observed in natural populations, yet rare in the laboratory. Multiparasitism can have negative effects on the host, ranging from the atypical manifestations to increased mortality, consequently, it may be misdiagnosed and treated with unsuitable anthelmintic medicines. Therefore, reliable diagnosis is critical for appropriate treatment of parasitic co-infection. Herein, we report a case of a 31-year-old woman with persistent eosinophilia and hypoechoic liver lesion on ultrasound. The microscopic examination of multiple stool specimens did not find any pathoge

Overview on coinfection of HTLV-1 and tuberculosis: Mini-review.

Human T-cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV-1) is one of the human retroviruses that causes various complications in humans, including lymphoma. Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb), on the other hand, is a causative agent of tuberculosis (TB), a deadly infectious disease. According to the literature, patients infected with HTLV-1 are prone to TB due to lack of regulation in the immune system. In the present study, we discussed the association between previous HTLV-1 infection and TB susceptibility. We also reviewed the histopathological findings of respiratory involvement following HTLV-1 infection

Effect of Goose Parvovirus and Duck Circovirus Coinfection in Ducks.

INTRODUCTION: Coinfection of goose parvovirus (GPV) and duck circovirus (DuCV) occurs commonly in field cases of short beak and dwarfism syndrome (SBDS). However, whether there is synergism between the two viruses in replication and pathogenicity remains undetermined. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We established a coinfection model of GPV and DuCV in Cherry Valley ducks. Tissue samples were examined histopathologically. The viral loads in tissues were detected by qPCR, and the distribution of the virus in tissues was detected by immunohistochemistry (IHC). RESULTS: Coinfection of GPV and DuCV signif…
